sharonjo Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Hi, I have just started Gemzar. Anyone with any experience taking this drug? What have been your experiences? Effectiveness, side effects, etc? Thanks in advance for your input. God Bless, Sharon Quote
Andrea Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 My mom was on gemzar/carbo. Gemzar was given to her b/c it typically has milder side effects. She had a little nausea, weakness at the end, typical chemo I guess. Overall she said it was not as bad as she expected. She did have to have a few hydration IVs. And she lost only half her hair. Shelley (MLC) Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Hi Sharon. I'm sorry you're not going to get your break this time. My mom was on Carbo Gemzar and did very well. She had no hair loss and the only problem seemed to be a drop in her counts (easily fixed) Good luck with the treatment and I hope you get a break after this! Shelley Quote
Connie B Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Oh Darn, your not going to get your break! BUMMER!!!! All I know about Gemzar is it's a mild type of chemo. I think a couple of my lc members were on it, but I don't remember what they said the side effects were. None the less, let's hope this drug is the magic bullet for YOU!!!!! Quote
Welthy Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Sharon, Here is a link to Dr. West's website with patient reviews of gemzar (mostly me.) http://onctalk.com/bbPress/topic.php?id=446 Tony was on this treatment twice, once with Taxotere, and once as a single agent. Blood counts and possible SOB are about it, aside from my comments on the link above. Hugs and more hugs, Debi Quote
RandyW Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 DEb had the Navy bean Gemzar mix with minimal side effects and great results as her first chemo 4 1/2 years ago.. Hope this helps some! Quote

trish2418 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Hi Sharon, I'm doing Gemzar/Navelbine right now, and the only problems I have are with my blood counts. No nausea, no overwhelming fatigue, minimal hairloss. Good luck with it. Trish Quote
beatlemike Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Hi Sharon. Im sorry you didnt get that break.I was on gemzar and carboplatin. It really wasnt to bad except for some loss of appetite and sleepyness. But I also was on alot of pain med from my surgerys so some of my side effects might of been from those. I hope and pray you get good results and then a break. Quote
Shar Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Hi Sharon, I tolerated Gemzar well with minimal side effects. My hair thinned a bit and my blood counts suffered a bit. That's about it really, I lived life normally. It worked well on me, it halved my primary tumour, so it was deemed a success. Hope it works well for you too, Sharon Quote
