Back after long absence

My mom is 63 and was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in June. It spread up her collarbone and into her abdomen. She had 5 or 6 rounds of chemo (unsure of medicines used) which she took 3 days in a row every 21 days. At first it seemed to work because the tumor on her collarbone shrank to practically nothing. Now after another scan we have found that the tumor is no longer shrinking so they have changed her chemo to once a week with stronger medicine being used. It has been difficult because I live in Arkansas and she lives in Michigan. I went to visit for a month and had a very difficult time leaving because she is my best friend and I would love to help her but I don't know how. I would love if someone could give me an idea of what to expect because I am just totally lost.
