RandyW Posted July 7, 2008 Share Posted July 7, 2008 Boston (ChattahBox) - According to new research from Massachusetts General Hospital, a new non-surgical tool has been developed to help doctors track the progress of non-small cell lung cancer. The new device is known as the CTC-chip, and has proven to be very successful in a small 27-patient study. The idea behind the tool is for it to be used to help analyze circulating tumor cells from blood samples taken from the patients. Once this is done, doctors will be able to better understand the progress of the lung cancer, which treatment methods are best, etc. In the past, the only way to do this would be through a surgical procedure. This new non-invasive method could prove to be far more effective. The research has been published online in the New England Journal of Medicine.
