Does anyone have any experience with acupuncture and Chinese medicine? I am interested to find out if/how it has helped with lung cancer and side effects of chemo. My mom has been having a alot of nausea/vomiting with her chemo and I was wondering if this would help.

I would make the appointments, take her to the appointments and pay for it if it will help her.

Thanks!

I'd give it a try but it can take from 2 to 6 visits for general pain reduction. As to chemo effects, my niece has breast cancer with mets to the liver and bones. She did chemo every week for a year or more. She went directly from chemo to the accupunturist and credits it with her tolerance for the treatment.

Ok thats enough info and reading for ya to do

We do have members who use accupuncture and do swear by its abilities to help the body deal with these things. If you do find or try info on Chineese Neds please let your oncologist know before you try them. there could be interactions involvd with chemo treatments!!

There are numerous government-approved studies confirming that acupuncture helps reduce chemo side effects, particularly nausea and vomiting.

Unfortunately, I did not learn about this until months after I'd finished my initial chemo (in 05/07); however, acupuncture also helps with numerous other facets of chronic illness, including insomnia and pain, and so in 10/07, I began receiving acupuncture regularly.

I credit it with reducing my pain (from stress fractures resulting from Prednisone-induced osteoporosis) as well as my insomnia (also Prednisone-induced), and have continued seeing an acupuncturist every week ever since (I also believe it has helped with stress reduction, which in turn contributes to my overall feelings of well-being).

Hope this helps (and thanks, Randy, for pulling up all those links!).

Affectionately,

Carole

I see Dr. Raymond Chang and he is great! I noticed his name was in one of the links Randy send.

I highly recommend him. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about him or his practice.
