shrimp
They moved Dad to the Skilled nursing/rehab unit today. He is not sick enough for acute care, but too sick and weak to go home, but too weak and sick for regular rehab. They also said is not in good enough condition for chemo. He takes his last rad treatment tomorrow. He was able to take 10 steps today with the help of 2 therapists. He still has the diarrhea and won't eat and hardly drank. His urine was looking dark. I had a talk with him about dehydration. He drank a little Sprite. I hope they can help him.

Ry
If his urine is dark he is dehydrated. Ask them about giving him an IV to get his fluids up- he will feel so much better. That could be part of his weakness -- dehydration also causes dizziness. Once you become dehydrated oddly enough you sometimes lose your sense of thirst-- so he may not be able to hydrate himself by drinking alone. Moving your dad to the skilled nursing/rehab unit was a very good move. I've heard of cases where the patient was sent home in that sort of condition. shrimp
A quick update and thanks to everyone. Dad still has diarrhea from the antibiotics and a yeast infection. They are getting better. His clotting times are up so he is back on blood thinners. He has started hallucinating again so we are waiting on the results of blood work to see if his calcium is up again. He had leg spasms while on the commode this weekend, to the point where it lifted his leg off the floor and straightened it. Don't know what that was about. The nurses told him his belly is distended from malnutrition, not from fat. That seems to have helped him eat a tad more. He ate 1/4 of a pork chop at lunch yesterday. Most of the time he is still too full from breakfast. He will start therapy today.
SandraL
Well it sounds like your dad is continuing to have an interesting time at the hospital shrimp. Good that he is eating a bit more though. I hope things start to improve soon and that he can maybe think about going home. Sandra
