jaminkw
I never did post the results of my last CT here on Updates. NED. I was having a rough time emotionally. Even though it was my second clear scan since undergoing treatment, I was upset to be continuing chemo. I've never been happy on Avastin maintenance but didn't want to go against my doctor. My husband and I have only grudgingly taken the medication we need to keep getting older. We don't like putting pharmaceutical in our body any more than we have to. Being on chemo and three blood pressure meds twice a day has been troublesome. It will be a year Nov six since my first chemo. New plan since the doctor said she wouldn't be opposed to me taking a "significant" (my word) break come Fall. I'll see her Sep 23 and tell her I would have liked to cancel this treatment, I feel so good after six weeks since the last chemo. If she says I can skip it I will. My guess is NOT. But I will ask for another six weeks (skip Oct infusion) and go for the Nov one when I will also have another CT and this time a PET too. If--when--that comes through clear as I know it will, I want to go treatment free scan to scan. Wow, I've been a long time working my way through to this. That's why I'm finally posting my plan! recce101
Sounds good, Judy. As you know, taking a break from the Avastin makes a lot of sense to me. Aloha, Ned
Muriel
I think you're ready for a break, too. Congrats. on the good scan. Muriel
Dollfinn
I am headed for a scan next Tues. Scanxiety has already set in. I got a 4 week break this summer.....it was GREAT!!!! I have heard more then once on this site, the 4th Tx is the telling"Tx" and thats the one my CEA shot up after 3 significant drops 3 wks apart. With that I have not found anyone w/ a Onc that follows CEA for LC. Judy, you go girl, abstenince may be a plan for me too. I was thinking Nov. ,Dec., let us know how the visit goes. jaminkw
Thanks folks for all the support. It is really appreciated. Ned is probably the only one who knows how much and for how long I've agonized over this. Dr West told me once there was no wrong decision in this case as long as it was well considered. This couldn't have been considered more! And yes, it is a tremendous relief. Mary, I will post the outcome of this visit and be watching for your CT results. Good luck. I'll be thinking of you and sending much positive energy your way. Judy in PA
Kasey
You certainly have things all lined up and squared away, Judy. I do believe it sounds like a plan that makes sense. Now.................have a safe journey as you head back to FL. Glad to have spent a little bit of your time with you. It was much enjoyed! jaminkw
Kasey, I was just going to log off and got notice of your post. I'd been thinking about you and wanted to say thanks again for lunch and for great conversation. I'm so glad we got to meet. Yes, I sure do sound like I have it all squared away. Now let's see how the real conversation goes when I meet with my onc next Tuesday! The way I've been forgetting things lately, I'd better write the plan down. Patti B
Judy- CONGRATS ON NED AGAIN!!! Good job!!! Wishing you all the best and that a break will do you good. Now that I am on Tarceva it actually feels strange not going to the Clinic for IV infusion.....isn't that odd??? Have a safe and fun rest of vacation and can't wait to see pics!! Hugs - Patti B. shellit74
Congrats Judy!!! Please enjoy your "break"... I am always happy to see people post about being able to take a break from chemo... Dad really never had that option, even thought he never had a progression of the cancer the whole 3 yrs.. always stable disease. He would occasionaly get a longer in between time during the holidays or if the doc was on vacation. Good luck to you Judy!!!!
