Hi All,

Mom had 3 weeks of radiation to her shoulder to relieve the pain but after going for the 3 weeks she says she still feels pain there. I thought this would do the trick . How can she not have gotten anything out of this? The radiologist said that for 2 weeks after it ends she could still get benefit from it - has anyone else had late effect of the radiation with better results after?

Hi Marci. I am so sorry your mom is still in pain. Don't give up hope yet, everyone is different. The effects of radiation can continue for some time. Keep her comfortable in the meantime with pain meds and if they aren't effective enough keep after those doctors. I hope she feels better soon.

Hi. Sorry to be responding so late but I wanted to tell you that I had radiation to two sites, the pelvis and the L3 verterbra. The pain caused by the met in the vertebra disappeared by the time I was halfway thru the treatments (14 in all). The pain caused by the met in the pelvis stayed with me all thru the treatments and for about two weeks after they were completed -- and THEN disappeared. So there's real variation, even in one person! Good luck to your mother.

Hi Sandra and Ellen,

Thanks for posting back to me. Its encouraging to here that the radiation could take some time and still give my mom the relief. Very true everyone its a variation. We are still praying for you both as well. I hope you both have a nice Thanksgiving with your families.
