Ann Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 What's your favorite cure for hiccups??? Drinking a glass of water Drinking a glass of water upside down. Hmmmmm, that sounds tricky! lol! lol! Scaring/startling/distracting the hiccupper Holding your breath Getting drunk! heehee! Other? Quote
Ry Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Other: Taking slow deep breaths seems to stop the spasm. Quote
SandraL Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 This works with my kids. I ask them to let me take a look down their throat. So they open wide and I look and say no I don't really think that is hiccups and this carries on for a few minutes...and voila, all of sudden no more hiccups. Quote
Ann Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 I always hold my breath for a few seconds. Doesn't always work on the first try but eventually it seems to make them go away. Quote
Larry's Wife Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Try pinching your earlobes between thumb and forefinger. Quote
shineladysue Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Take a deep breath, tilt your head back and swallow... it's not so comfortable , but it works for me most of the time. Does it seem like people have hiccupping days? I mean I can go months without hiccups and the have them two or three times in a day.. even when I'm sober.. Sue Quote
luvmydog2 Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 9 tiny sips of water followed by 1 big drink of water. I have used this for over 35 years and it works for me everytime. Quote
jaminkw Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Another "works every time." I remember amazing a teenage in my office with this fail-proof trick my daughter taught me years ago: Put a finger in each ear while you have someone hold and gently tip a glass of water to your lips. Drink slowly and steadily as long as you can without stopping . continuing to keep your fingers in your ears. I swear it works! Judy in Key West Quote
