3 years ago today I heard those horrid words....

"its the worst it can possibly be". My CAT scan showed Lung Cancer.

Its been a long journey these last three years - sometimes much worse than the others. I was only given 12 months tops - so much for statistics!!! You all know I WILL not have pity parties for myself because I feel like that gives the cancer more power - but it sure is tough sometimes not to. Yesterday I completed my 61st chemo IV session - would have been more except for the 8 week break on Tarceva and the 8 week break for WBR. Think I am going for a Guiness Record!!!

I am stubborn and bullheaded and refuse to EVER give up because I HAVE to see Nick graduate from high school. He has become my biggest supporter and advocate - something that in the beginning I thought I would never see. I love him so much. He remembers the 29th of each month and always says something to me and today he told me that he doesn't mean to make it sound like he is celebrating my having cancer but celebrating my survivorship.

I want to thank each and everyone of you who have helped me along the way. Means a lot to me.

My thoughts and prayers continue to be with those fighting this awful disease and for those who have lost loved ones.

Hugs - Patti B.

All I can say to you, Patti, is this...............STATS SCHMATS!!!! Glad you're showing them who's the boss. It's an amazing feeling, isn't it? So ~ you just keep doing whatever it is you're doing until that magic remedy comes along to kick cancer in the tuckus for eternity. I'm drinking!!!

Patti, I am so inspired by you, as I help you celebrate your 3 years of survivorship. I have learned so much from you ,not just about surviving cancer , but about how to be an awesome human being. You have been such a wonderful support and friend to so many of us on the board . I just want you to know how proud Iam to be able to have the honor and the priviledge of calling you my friend.... You go Patti. You have my support and my prayers that you will be celebrating your survivorship for a long time to come.

Love,

Sue

Patti, you are an amazing woman. Your "bounce back" is truly amazing. You give new meaning to strength and determination. Nick sounds like a great kid but he's also a lucky kid to have you as a mom. Congratulations on three years.

Patti you know I think the world of you girl and you are nothing short of a hero in my eyes. You deal with everything going on in your own life but still give so unselfishly your support and friendship to so many of us here on this site. Your friends here will celebrate with you on your anniversary as we will next year and the year after that.

Patti - you are something girl - I have nothing but admiration for your daily courage and the way you put yourself out there for everyone on these boards.

Hearing your good news was much needed today in the face of so much bad news lately. I will look up your name once it is entered in the Guiness World Record Book which should be there for your tenancity and kick a** attitude!

A huge CONGRATULATIONS on 3 years ... you will be at Nick's graduation and all the other milestones that he has!

Patti,

So glad this thread came up again. It seems I am always late to the party, and this is especially one I didn't want to miss.

Congratulations on the three years, and on having (not surprisingly) a wonderful son. You are an inspiration, a loving mother, an avid supporter, and a fantastic lung cancer survivor. There are many more kudos I could give, but you already "get" how I feel.

You have proven that stats DO NOT tell the story. :D:D:D

.....and they never will.
