Bud Baker
Good morning, everyone! It was 69 degrees when I got up this morning. Forecast high is 98. There were heavy storms moving through, so I drove to work. I guess it worked out for the best. My coffee pot at work had died. I bought a new one, and spent some time yesterday afternoon trying to figure out how I was going to transport it on the bike this morning. The storms made that unnecessary. It's just decaf that I brew these days, but I still like a few cups of something hot that tastes like coffee in the morning. Have a great day, all! Joppette
Good morning! Bud, how come decaf? Why not enjoy a jolt in the AM? Funny, saw the cardio doc yesterday, and he asked about my heart history. Told him I had a heart cath 30 years ago and they diagnosed mitral valve prolapse. He shook his head and told me there is no condition called mitral valve prolapse anymore. He said over the years they figured out it is not a medical abnormality, and it affects no one's health. I've been on beta blockers for 30 years for no reason. And I gave up all coffee and caffeine because of it too. He told me to drink coffee, and all the caffeine I wanted as it does not affect heart rate. DAMN! Well, anyway, the issue with my heart is premature atrial contractions, or PAC, and it's a benign condition that can not be corrected. He said it won't kill me, and to learn to live with the fluttering in my chest. He did order a stress echocardiogram just to rule out any other condition, but he does not think there is anything to worry about. He made the remark that I seemed quite unconcerned about all of this, and my comment back was "Doc, if you told me I had cancer mets, there'd be great cause for concern. But if you told me I had a heart problem, I'd just tell you to fix it. You can fix hearts pretty easy, the other, not so much." So anyway, it looks like I just will have to live with this. Just start stacking up the "learn to live withs". Anyway, it is raining, and cloudy, and a cool front is coming in, so all is good. Love cool fronts. Bud, how come decaf? Why not enjoy a jolt in the AM? I can't answer for Bud, but I can for myself, and it would be: Because it's really neat to never wake up with a morning headache any more, unlike the previous 50 years when I woke up with one at least 2 or 3 days every week — and that included the year or so when I had quit drinking coffee and had just one with-caffeine diet Pepsi every afternoon. The winter of 2008-09 I switched to no-caffeine soda attempting to reduce the acid reflux problem I was having while on Tarceva, and bingo, the morning headaches stopped immediately. I was amazed, since it's hard to correlate those facts with typical caffeine withdrawal, so figure it might have been some hypersensitivity to caffeine which manifested itself in that way. Anyway, it's been well over 1-1/2 years since I've had one of those headaches or actually any kind of bothersome headache, so if they start again I'll know something else might be going on, and I think you know what I mean without my having to say it... Snowflake
Hey, Ned, I was going to comment on the caffeine and the pinking-shears optical migraines! I was having cluster headaches a few years back and my doctor wanted to check my head for "critters" - no critters, but plaque, proof of migraines. Seems a migraine leaves residue on the brain, go figure! Since most sodas contain a whole lotta sodium, quitting any form of pop helps with getting rid of body bloat. I'm working on getting off the juice again, there really is no good reason to drink it, bad for your teeth, body and brain, let alone your waist line! It's Thursday. Earlier this week, the weather man was saying the weekend would be mild and dry. Now we're looking at cool and rainy, not to mention the 30 mph gusts of wind that are supposed to start tomorrow afternoon. I'm guessing that as soon as we break out the tent and start putting it up, the skies are going to open and the rain is going to pour down as the hurricane-force winds start blowing up on the lake we're camping by. I'm procrastinating, I'm supposed to be packing for the camping trip and finishing the grocery shopping. It's raining, though, and I just don't feel like getting splattered. Thank goodness I can farm and not worry about the rain!
Joppette
Hi All, Eric, I'm guessing we don't do carpet bowling in the USA because I have no idea what you are talking about. I googled it and it seems to be an England kind of thing. LOL! Here's the link I found. http://www.freewebs.com/bcbs1896/ Anyway, interesting read. I love learning about your culture.
