SMOKING CESSATION INTERVENTION FOR LUNG CANCER PATIENTS

RE: A Research Study You May Be Interested In

A researcher at UCSF, Janine K. Cataldo, PhD, RN is recruiting patients for a smoking cessation intervention study that includes a quit smoking program that was designed specifically for intervention diagnosed lung cancer patients who smoke.

If you are a diagnosed lung cancer patient who currently smokes you might be eligible to participate in this study. You do not have to be ready to quit now. You only have to consider quitting.

What will happen if I agree to participate in this study?

• You will be encouraged to sign a “smoke free home” contract.

• Receive an individualized self help manual, feedback report, and 30 minute counseling session every month

• Receive weekly support phone calls from project staff

• If you want to use Nicotine Replacement Therapy, you will be provided with a 10 week supply.

• In exchange for your time and effort, you will be given a $20 gift card upon completion of the intervention.

Study participation will last for 6 months and require approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes (online and the phone) each month.

The total time for the study from baseline to 6 months is approximately 9 hours. Participating in research is voluntary.
