Treebywater
A while back I learned that Ilyene Barsky, a tireless pioneer and advocate for women with Postpartum Depression was struggling with Lung Cancer. Like so many here she was a younger, vibrant, healthy and beautiful woman and her diagnosis came as a surprise. She did a lot of work with the leadership of Postpartum Support International which I volunteer with as a coordinator for military families, so when I found out about her diagnosis I remember thinking that two of my 'worlds' were crashing together. I learned today that she gave her life in the fight against lung cancer. Ilyene fought so hard for women dealing with postpartum mood disorders--another area of health which takes too many lives and is overly stigmatized. I didn't know her very well, but the little I did know her (mostly online) showed an amazing spirit, one heckuva sense of humor, and endless compassion. Anyway. I learned of this loss today and just needed to share it with you all. It just felt right to honor her in some small way.
