A blood test which could detect lung cancer in patients years earlier than at present will be piloted across Scotland.

The scheme will test smokers who are at the highest risk of developing the disease in an effort to improve survival rates.

Scotland has one of the worlds highest rates of lung cancer.Nearly 5000 get diagnosed every year,double the UK rate.

Under the pilot,60 GP surgeries will test 10,000

patients over four years.
