KatieB
Good afternoon everyone! Just wanted to open the air. Judy's memorial is tomorrow so let's take a moment to reflect and remember our dear friend. It's not lost on me that tomorrow is also the start of ASCO, American Society of Clinical Oncology conferences. The largest oncology conference in the world with over 30K oncologists in attendance. It was at this exact conference in 2009 that Judy and I met. I will go into the 2012 meetings remembering her and our wonderful visit. This is Judy's daughter, Wendy, announcing a memorial service to be held for my mother in Key West, Fl. There will be a gathering at White Street Pier in front of the Aids Memorial Site at 4 pm on June 1, 2012. Friends and family are welcome to gather afterwards at Salute. Among my mother's many accomplishments she had a Master's Degree in counseling, was the Director of Saint Leo College, private practice mental health therapist and CEO of Mitchell Enterprises. She was also a member of Zonta organization and very active in Lungevity organization. She will be dearly missed by family, friends and anyone fortunate enough to have known her. There should be some blockbuster studies on lung cancer out of this conference. This is a great thing--I've attended in years past when there was no knews at all on lung cancer aside from studies who had a 4-5 month median survival rate. I will report back anything that I hear and Jack West will be putting together an ASCO recap webinar that will be free for anyone to listen into. What's on your agenda this weekend? Hugs and love, KatieB
beatlemike
Katie, I wish you the very best with the OSCO agenda. Im sure you will be a very busy girl. I sure hope you hear some encourging words on new treatment options in the making. I hope if anyone comes across the obituary for JudyKW that they will post it. Doc wanted me to take some kind of test to see if Im getting enough oxygen while I sleep. He thinks maybe I need to be on oxygen while I sleep. I personaly think I am ok and just need to get off my a-- and start exerciseing again. I hope you all have a nice weekend.
dianew
Well I'm a day late on this one -- nothing new there. Katie - I've heard that the Lucanix trial I was on finally filled up and is now closed. Maybe there would be some news on the vaccine front. Couldn't think about anything else yesterday afternoon but Judy KW's family. I know the memorial service must have been very comforting, but this is also I think when the loss really starts to hit home. My prayers are with them. Mike - I thought I was fine and my doctor insisted I do an oxygen test while sleeping - was very surprised to find out how low my 02 level was. Oxygen at night really made me feel better. beatlemike
Diane, Thanks for responding to the O2 level. To be honest about it I quess my biggest fear is that if I use it while sleeping that I am only a step away from using it 24/7. I dont know if it is false pride or just fear but the idea of that just scares the hell out of me. Maybe I am looking at it the wrong way. Also I have terrible sinus problems. Do you think that could be causing low O2 levels?

dianew
Mike - (I would move this to a different topic - but I think you have to be a moderator) so am just responding here. For what it's worth, I have terrible sinus issues as well as pretty much constant year-round allergies. I've found those do affect my breathing. Every once in awhile I'll wake up and it's like some breeze came through the valley and cleared out all of whatever it is I'm allergic to and I can breathe!!! Sadly it never lasts more than a few days. I've complained to my pulmonologist about this, but none of the inhalers seem to help. I'm finally going to go see an allergy specialist altho I doubt there is much he will be able to do. I don't know much about what happens when we sleep, but I do know that the O2 levels can drop dramatically - and come back up when you are up and moving around. One thing that helped convince me to use it was reading about the damage that lack of oxygen can cause to other organs, including the heart. That was a little scarey. I still HATE using it, but on the other hand am glad it is available - can you imagine 100 years ago when people couldn't breathe and there was nothing they could do! I don't think that using the O2 has made me more dependent on it - but I can't be sure. In my case I have COPD and I know that will only get worse over time with or without O2. I sooo admire JudyMI and her attitude toward the oxygen. I am working really hard to get there and slowly it seems to be a little better. After all, if it makes life easier what's the big deal -- but I have had a real problem with it and am working on that so I do understand.
