After my time-wasting experience at MD Anderson, I came home and did some research on my own for clinical trials and then talked to my local oncologist on Monday. I learned that most clinical trials want 0 or 1 previous chemotherapy treatments. Since I have had 3 already, I am disqualified from many of them. There doesn't seem to be much difference between 2 and more than two, so there is no problem in terms of my future eligibility with me trying more traditional chemo at this point. Anyway, my onc here and I dscussed the pros and cons of several different drugs and decided to try a combo he called CMF (cyclophosphamine, methotrexate, and 5FU). He said these drugs have been around for a while to treat adenocarcinoma of the breat and they have had about the same success rate on adenocarcinoma of the lung as the other drugs I knew about, but with less troubling side effects. (He said gemzar can create its own breathing problems, for example.) So anyway, I start tomorrow after I teach my class. It feels good to be doing something about it again--this month of waiting and researching and deciding has been hard on my psyche.

Good to see some action! It seems that MD Anderson is either "The Real Deal" or a waste of time, no in between...sorry you were in the latter category, as well.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Hi Becky. I am happy to hear that there is a course of action finally going on. We never know whats going to work for us. I like my Oncologist and would probably go along with her suggestions. Good luck with the new treatment and I look forward to posts on your progress. Nancy O.

Dear Becky,

Call me silly, but I just believe that being in treatment makes us feel better. Earl always says 'Easy for you to say" and he is right.

I so hope that this chemo combo does the trick for you. You are ready for some good news.

Hi Becky,

Oh Becky, I am so sorry you have had to go through all this crud over the last month. There is NOTHING WORSE! I to am glad to hear you and your Onc Doc have come to agree on a plan of attack. I'll keep my fingers, toes, legs, arms, and eyes crossed that this will do the trick for you. Not to mention I'll keep saying a prayer. Stay strong my dear, you still have options, and this can still be beat. (((((BECKY))))))

Just wanted to let you know that yet another Becky will be praying for you.

(How's that for a new organization: BALC -- Beckys Against Lung Cancer!) I hope tomorrow goes well, and every day after that!

If I Could Catch a Rainbow:

If I could catch a rainbow, I would do it just for you, And share with you its beauty, On the days you’re feeling blue. If I could build a mountain, You call your very own, A place to find serenity, A place to be alone. If I could take your troubles, I would toss them in the sea, But all these things I’m finding, Are impossible for me. I cannot build a mountain, Or catch a rainbow fair, But let me be what I know best A friend that’s always there. Author Unknown
