" I need folks who have had some experience with Non-small cell lung cancer and would like to provide their expertise and perspectives as I design and execute the study. My study will create and test a decision aid intervention that helps inform patients of everything they need and want to know in order to decide between having surgery or doing something else.

Stakeholders and patients will be involved in writing of this grant proposal and execution of the study through a variety of methods that draw on their expertise and experiences with lung cancer. Dr. Hemmerich will perform editorial work to make this grant proposal cohesive and provide guidance on the testing phases.

Stakeholders and patients plan to be involved during all 5 years of the study. Each of the stakeholders and patients are asked and expected to be involved during all years of the study. The stakeholders and patients will be true members of the research team and meet in person or via telephone conference bi-monthly during the three years of the study. They will be instrumental in recruiting seniors and caregivers from their organizations for the focus groups, pilot studies, and randomized control trial.

In the design of the Decision Aid tool, the stakeholders and patients anticipate that they will give

insight as survivors, caregivers, and resource providers. They are interested in building, refining,

and testing the best lung cancer Decision Aid tool possible to help people like them make the best decision about whether or not to have lung cancer surgery. Stakeholders and patients will be compensated co-Investigators.

With their commitment and obvious dedication, the stakeholders are written into the grant as

co-Investigators and will be compensated. They have written letters of support and submitted bio sketches."
