Hi 👋 Dealing with Nodules?

DanielleJW

Recommended Posts

Hi all 👋

So finally saw the specialist on Thursday and he wants me to do a scan in 6 months and if no change still he is fairly certain MPN are probably benign. He was much more reassuring than the doctor has been ..he said there are 3 nodules ( no one has told me this until now... I was imaging like 30 of them 🙃) .. he said they can be as simple as scar tissue from having measles as a child. He also said to me that it would be very unlikely that 3 spots of cancer would spring up at the same time so basically MPN is less suspicious than a solitary nodule in most cases. Anyway what I took from it is If the scan next June shows no change we can relax.

Anyway that’s where it’s at for anyone following the thread. Will update when that scan is complete.

Danielle and others,

I noticed you were referred to a pulmonologist.  My doctor is setting up an appointment with a thoracic surgeon.   Maybe just because she thinks a biopsy is needed?

This thread has a lot of good information.  Thank you all.

Hi 👋 Everyone,

Ive just been for my 6 month scan and subsequent Appt with the lung specialist today and am back to update my thread as promised.

The scan report said no change to the size of nodules, and the specialist said the look all the same but one looks a little “bulky” however it could be just the angle of the scan was slightly different... he is not overly concerned but wants another follow up in 12 months to be sure. From what I’ve read this is standard procedure... I can at least put it to the side for now.

I just think it’s good for anyone else that might be going through similar and stumbles across this thread to see the whole story play out. The specialist did say half the population over 50 is walking around with these nodules and will never know about it.

Ill be back with anything further.

Love and light to you all

Dx

Awesome news Danielle.  It’s great to hear from the majority of people who’s nodules are nothing.  Definitely encouraging.

My husband has 5 lymph nodes that are maglinant. They are going to do radiation on them. Three are on the same side as the carcinoma upper right lung and one in the subclavian area and one in neck I believe. GOD bless you.

Ok ... Hi Everyone... I’m back to update my thread on my lung module journey (I committed to following this thread right through from the start of the discovery of multiple lung modules to wherever the story is going to help anyone else going through similar). It has been 12 months since my last scan .... next Tuesday I go for another CT scan and see the specialist the following Tuesday. I will be back with the update. It’s been 21 months since nodules were detected on a scan that was not related to the lungs. This will be CT scan #4

Thank you for the update.  My story is the same and going for my 4th scan after 10 months at the end of June.  This one is really starting to freak me out because all my other scans were every 4 months.  Hang in there and hopefully no growth for either of us.  ❤️

Hi All

Firstly to Lisa L my fingers and toes are crossed for you that all is well at your next scan.

Ive just returned from the lung specialist and there has been no change to size and shape of the 3 lung nodules. Since they have been checked now for 2 years with no change I’m good to go and no further scans will be done ... well for the immediate future anyway. This ends my lung nodule adventure for now. I hope that by following this thread right through it helps someone else out there at the starting blocks in some way.

My thoughts are with everyone on this forum who has either been through or is going through a lung cancer diagnosis. Bless x

DX,

Check the nodules every once in awhile going forward. I too did the nodule watch. Had two follow up scams and no change. This was 2005 thru 2007. Fast forward to 2019 and my little nodule was the size of a lime and my lung cancer journey began. I had to suggest the scan to the Dr......tho she should have suggested doing it.  All I know is a benign 1.2cm round mass turned into a monster sometime over that 12 year period. God knows.

Peace

Tom

Hi,

I am new here, also I had a CT done for a pre-op surgery, they found a 10mm nodule on the upper part of my left lung.  I am waiting for a PET scan now.  I am so scared, anxious and not able to eat.  I am an ex-smoker and quit about 9 years ago.  Just being on this site makes me feel better, as I don't feel so alone.  I am married and have 3 children who are all very supportive and very scared for me too.  I know about 5 years ago I had a CXR and there was something there, they ordered a CT scan then, they called and said it was fine.  I didn't even question that, and now here we are.  I am so scared, I don't know what to do with myself.  But thank you all for being here.

Sheryl

I'm very sorry to learn of your nodule find. A PET scan will tell us more, and I know how hard it is to wait for scans and results et cetera. I'm a sixteen-year survivor of stage IIIB lung cancer that became stage IV after recurrence. I've had every form of treatment but immunotherapy, and I know how difficult diagnosis, treatment and especially waiting can be. My tenure suggests one message: if I can live, so can you.

Here is something that might help you get through the next weeks. I find knowledge an important tool in the survivor's kit. Here is information about a PET and when the results are in, be sure to get your own individual copy of the radiologist's report. PET results are a little tricky to interpret and this might help you understand the results.

So here we are, ready to stand with you as you go through diagnosis, treatment and hopefully find our desired end state: no evidence of disease or NED. Questions? This is the place.

Stay the course.

Tom

Danielle--I'm glad to hear all is OK for you!  Given what Tom (TJM) experienced,  you might consider asking for a scan occasionally.

Sheryl-- I also had a nodule that was discovered in a scan for something unrelated. To make a long story short, my nodule (about the same size as yours) turned out to  be a non-small-call lung cancer, stage 1a.  I had my lower right lobe removed by VATs (video assisted, done through small incisions). The surgery was fairly easy (as surgeries go) and my recovery was pretty fast. I didn't need any treatment besides the surgery. I've been NED (no evidence of disease) since the surgery in November of 2016.

Lung cancer usually has no symptoms until it's advanced and then it can be harder to treat.  I was fortunate (if anyone with lung cancer can be said to be fortunate) to have mine discovered "by accident"  at a very early stage, when treatment is easier. If your nodule turns out to be cancer,  I hope your treatment is as  easy  as mine was.

It's absolutely normal to be scared at this point.   It's such a shock to be faced with the possibility of cancer. If you continue to be very anxious and unable to eat, tell your doctor, who may be able to prescribe a low-dose anti-anxiety med.

Hang in there! Ask us any questions you may have and tell us how we can support you. That's what we're here for.

Sheryl,

Let me pile on here and welcome you to our forum.  Sorry you need to be here, but glad that you found us. I had a nodule discovered when being scanned for something else, and in my case it turned out to be NSCLC (non-small cell lung cancer) at stage 1a.  In my case surgery was all that was needed and follow up scans were all negative for recurrence or NED (no evidence of disease).  My surgery was May 2nd 2019 so, I'm over a year now and my next scans are in August.  I understand your anxiety right now, but please remember that about 60% of nodules are not malignant and even if it is finding it early will usually lead to a good chance of achieving NED.  Stay strong and ask any questions you have here.

SherylE I feel you. I’m sitting here waiting on my 4th scan, original Dec 2018 found by accident.  I have a 9mm nodule that has not grown or changed last scans but it’s been 10 months and I have to say I’m freaking out about this one.  I see the pulm doc in a couple of days and will post results.  This forum has some amazing people that have calmed my nerves and cheered me on from day one.  Love and Light ❤️
