Ugh Scan Time

Lisa L

Recommended Posts

So a lot of you have been following my story since I found the nodule mid Dec. no uptake on the pet 3 weeks later and now the dreaded 3 month (actually 4 month) scan.   I have lived my life and put this nodule out of my mind but tomorrow is the day and all I can think about what if it has grown or what if it hasn’t what do I do,  I do not see my pulm doc until April 31st but I’m sure I will look on mychart before then.  Scared is an understatement.  Prayers friends. Love and light ❤️

Hey Lisa-

I’ll be right there with you! ‘‘Tis the Scan season. Try & look back at that fabulous vacation in Hawaii. You might try my scanxiety solution by booking a bunch of appointments at the salon.  At least I’ll have fabulous hair.  Hang in there my friend.  Keep us posted!

Lisa,

Great to hear from you again.  Scanziety sucks! Keep the deep blue Hawaiian water and lush green foliage in mind as you countdown to results revealed. Can't wait to celebrate your NED announcement.

Stay the course.

Lisa, I'd suggest doing your best not to look at any results before your appointment.  I say that simply because you are already worrying about what if it grew, or what if it didn't.  No matter what you see, you will be freaking out until you talk to the doctor--who might actually assure you that all you need to do is to continue to follow the nodules.  If mine hadn't grown and changed in appearance, I'd still be going for annual scans to follow it.  So maybe it's best if you wait to hear the expert's take on it before you start worrying.

When is your scan scheduled?

Michelle thank you sweets and I am praying for good results on your upcoming scan...I keep up with all of you.  Curt I’m so glad you are doing well and healing nicely and it was not as bad as we thought it would be, you are an inspiration to me.  Tom my trip to Hawaii was everything, I ate a lot of good seafood, wonderful pineapple and some good wine.  I really took it in you know the waves, beach, smells it was perfect, gonna go back soon. Terry thanks for the advice I think you are so right, last time I had my bloodwork I got on mychart and diagnosed myself and thought welp this it and then my doc said my bloodwork was excellent, this after I spent 2 days on dr. Google.  No matter you all have been such a source of hope and friendship and I will let (as we say in Oklahoma) y’all know. Love and light ❤️

Hi Michelle, thank you for checking on me.  Had the scan yesterday but I see the pulm doc Tuesday the 30th, so I don’t know anything. I’m going to try my best not to look on mychart to see what it says.  How are you?

Status quo here.  Lovely day at Thai Chi. Not thinking much about the scans next week & really looking forward to my spa day next Tuesday.  Good plan on avoiding MyChart!

Hang in there!

It probably hasn't changed at all.  And that's a GOOD thing.

Some nodules are just--THERE.  They are scar tissue or something, which means they don't shrink or disappear, but they don't change, either.  No change in this amount of time is a good thing.

So try to relax.  Your doc may want to continue to follow it, but don't be surprised if it's "come back next year."

Hi Lisa-

Remember we’re all here for you!  Let us know how it goes with the doc.  As I recall, You were very proactive in locating a pulmonologist you could trust.  Keep us posted.

A big hug!

Lisa,

With nodules, bigger is not better and same size is not bigger.

I see this as a good news report. Bigger, worry; not don’t. Go to a spa!

Crusin’ for you!

Stay the course.

Tom great pic, ok well I don’t know how I’m feeling honestly.  My pulm said he wants me to bring him first scan that he didn’t have and we will talk on Friday.  He wants to put the first scan and the pet ct and this scan all together, but no it doesn’t look like any change, he’s like all 3 are different scan machines so it could be 2mm off but they all seem 9 and then 8 then 9mm. He said well we can scan in 3 months, but I feel like my radiologist could get a good ct biopsy, I kinda shut down like what why would we do that.  I flat out asked him if he thought it was LC, his response was well it hasn’t grown, no uptake on pet and that’s all good, but whatever it is it is slow growing or not growing at all we just don’t know.  So I left a little defeated 😕 like do I play Russian roulette and wait 3 months or what do I do?  Maybe this is my new normal.  Thanks peeps..btw Michelle I’m getting a massage and facial tomorrow 🤷‍♀️

Hey Lisa-

You’ve got your priorities straight for tomorrow! Take this one day at a time-sounds like the pulmonologist is totally on top of this. There’s pros and cons to each side of the equation.

My Mom was actually scheduled for a CT biopsy of her lung nodules on Monday (4mm) to evaluate for endometrial cancer progression. They’ve been watching these nodules for two years.  Unfortunately the docs weren’t able to do the biopsy (long story).  After a case conference with all the involved docs they elected to do another scan in three months since there doesn’t appear to be any growth.  There’s only a small SUV uptake-marginal.  Waiting seems to be the safest way to proceed. Those nodules could be anything including scar tissue.

A biopsy is not without risk & they may not get sufficient tissue sample. In my case, we skipped the broncosopy and went directly to the biopsy since the pulmonologist thought they could get a good tissue sample. The biopsy was thought to be the most rapid pathway to a diagnosis ( at the time they were thinking fungal infection!!)

See what the pulmonologist recommends on Friday.  Doc might have a better recommendation after looking at all the scans.

Enjoy the spa & have a nice glass of wine (or two!)

Hang in there.
