Mally
Scan time again already ..gee the 3 months fly by but at least I've only got 2 days till I see the oncologist for the results which is a godsend because you all know about the scanziety waiting for results...tomorrow is the day for results of both my lung cancer and of the sarcoma cancer nearly 7 yrs ago ...I got a full body ct scan and an MRI of my leg ...I'm quite uptight tonight ☹☹
Mally
Another scan this time 4 and half month break from last one ...saw oncologist today for results and was told I had no new cancer but one of the lymph nodes that were previously flat has grown a bit and dr wants me to have an ultrasound and possible biopsy to see if its got cancer in it ....I've had arthritis in my neck ( confirmed by scan )being quite painful for the past several weeks and Google says that can cause enlargement of lymphnodes as can the flu shot because of the virus it contains ..the lymphnode in question is behind my collar bone so does anyone have any thoughts on this ? I'm thinking if cancer is growing In this node that would usually cause mets somewhere ? And I have no other sign of cancer growth ..
Steff
Mally- Glad to hear your doc sees no new cancer in your scans, congrats! It's easy to overthink something like an enlarged lymphnode. Like you said, there are many things that can cause a lymphnode to become enlarged, cancer only being 1 of them. I wish I could answer your questions or give you some relief while awaiting your further testing, but I cant. I'm sorry you have more of the waiting game and I hope that someone can provide some assurance sooner than later. Take Care, Steff
Mally
Thankyou steff I'm just being grateful that I dont have any new areas of cancer and just hope this lymphnode isnt anything to worry about but he did say that I might need a biopsy and if its cancer then I would have some radiotherepy and i didnt ask what type of radiotherepy but one step at a time i guess .. Isabelle49
Praying it’s an inflammatory condition that’s causing the enlarged lymph node.
Tom Galli
Mally, Time to plan another vacation to celebrate your NED scan. Lymph nodes swell all the time and for a myriad of reasons. Therefore, go some where and enjoy NED life. Stay the course. Tom
Curt
Lymph nodes do swell for all types of reasons. Yo can do a lymphatic massage to relieve some fluid and inflammation. I would check with your doctor first before doing one.
Mally
I had the flu shot in my arm nearest to this enlarged lymphnode and my arm was hot, swollen and tender in the injection site so I'm hoping that's the reason but dr is talking ultrasound ,biopsy and radiotherapy if it turns out to be cancer which makes me think that he thinks it is but hes just being cautious hopefully. And he doesnt offer much conversation and feels like I have to drag info out of him and i didnt think to mention the flu shot as a possible cause of the enlargement. PaulaC
Mally it sounds like good news to me and praying the lymph node is nothing.
Irwin1
Maly, I'm not sure about how things work here. I am in another forum that I am dealing with Valium addiction. There we start a thread with our name. And we call this a blog. Is this how it works here? Hoping for good news from your doctor 🙏
Rower Michelle
How’s life down under? Lymph nodes can be mysterious. My rowing team mate is being treated for a different type of cancer. He’s had a few nodes light up on the PET that were surgically removed. Turned out to be just fatty tissue. Keep us posted. Know that you’re in our prayers! Mally
Hello my fellow survivors I'm just updating my journey and had a biopsy on 1 lymph node and it is cancer in it so I'll be having radiotherepy for 5 days if the radiotherapy oncologist agrees that he can get to it otherwise he may add a chemo to my opdivo...so just when I think I'm doing really well this happens but I am grateful I have no other cancer masses anywhere ...so has anyone had this type of situation ? Or some advice ? Thankyou..
Tom Galli
Mally, So very sorry to learn of this news! If by situation you mean recurrence, then yes; many of us have experienced one or several -- advice: treat and repeat! Lung cancer is unfortunately persistent and in battling it, we need to become more persistent. I think the precision radiation is a good thing and I hope your treatment plan is established quickly. Stay the course. Tom
Steff
Hi Mally, I too am sorry to hear of your recurrence. I hope this doesn't get you down too much - it's just another bump in the road that you will get through.
Curt
I’m sorry to hear that Mally. Recurrence is a really tough part of this disease. Your treatment plans sounds like a good one and it sounds like the recurrence was caught early. Hang in there.

Mally
I had to get a face mask type of thing done today getting ready for my radiotherepy and I have to say it was quite uncomfortable because it fits over your face to form a mould and firmly attached to the ct scan bed and I could only just see because it was firm over my eyes and I kept thinking if i needed to sneeze or if i had a choke on saliva wouldnt be nice because i couldnt even open my mouth ...but it was to get a clear target of my lymph node for my next appointment so was necessary but not comfortable just the same and i have my first beam on the 19th august so again the waiting game hoping the cancer doesnt do anything silly in that time and just sits awaiting for destruction.. Rower Michelle
Hi Mally That sounds awful-the face mask thing. I’d feel the same way and would definitely want drugs to get me through it. Now you’re on the way to zapping those buggers. I hope it all goes smoothly for you. Hugs to you! Michelle
Robert Macaulay
Mally Had the same type of mask fitted for my radiation way back in 2002, The main thing with the mask is to keep the patient very still during the procedure, Never had any concerns during the 35 treatments but sadly it did not work for me.
