TJM
Or support atleast. I am in constant pain. I'm taking way to much over the counter PLUS 5mg of oxy every 4 hrs and still barely functional. Did a big BBQ for a family reunion. Doubled the oxy and felt relatively good that day but now I pay the price. I have been worthless since unless I up my Meds...but then I run out. I'd like to go back to doing some kind of work but there is no way. Any advice? This is not how I want to spend the rest of my life. Peace Tom PS. Requested a consult with a pain specialist. Will see where that leads. Based on past experience I dont expect much.

TJM
Wish I knew. I just hurt. Joints, muscles, neck and ankle (which I broke 6 months months ago). The ankle I can handle... Plus a constant throbbing near the incision site from my lobectomy 18 months ago. Lastly, my throat ( which I blame on radiation) Peace Tom

LexieCat
I'm sorry, Tom. I don't know much about chronic pain (other than my arthritis pain, which has been manageable with NSAIDs). I hope you can get some relief.
TJM
How you doing Lexi? Steady improvement?
Judy M2
Constant pain really messes you up. My palliative care doctor prescribed methadone for me, which worked very well until I went on a targeted therapy. Then I had to be switched to a Fentanyl patch, which worked almost as well. I hope your pain management doctor has a solution for you. I'd also recommend an integrative medicine physician and acupuncture. My theory is to throw everything you can at the pain. This week felt like sort of a setback--after my doctor visit and good lab results earlier this week I felt like the wind went out of my sails. I suspect it's the low RBC and hemoglobin. I read that you kinda just have to let your RBC catch up and that it's fine to rest if you're tired. So I'm just kinda taking it easy right now. LouT
Tom, When you see this pain specialist you need to be brutally honest about the level of pain and the effect it is having on you. I would expect them, of all people, to be tuned into they patient's need for relief. I hope that you get some relief. Lou
Judy M2
@LouT, agree, and don't settle for any half measures. Oxycodone isn't enough for high levels of pain. They might try morphine first, but both oxy and morphine made me so nauseous. Methadone was much more tolerable. Here in California, you are also required to fill a prescription for Narcan along with any prescription for morphine, methadone or Fentanyl patch in case of accidental overdose. TJM
No word yet from my NP. I decided to experiment a bit. Bottom line no pain today. Which is awesome. But will pay for it by Sunday when I run out. Crazy world we live in. I'm one Dr slip away from being functional. I shall enjoy this day however. BrianK
Hi Tom Have you considered trying things like cannabis oil for the joint pain? There’s people that swear by it and if i recall correctly, olivia newton john is one of them (she has breast cancer). Hope the pain specialist can help you out. Dona
Tom I am sorry about the pain you are in. I cannot begin to imagine how unbearable it is. Like Brian, I was going to suggest cannabis as it has documented pain alleviating characteristics. Or massage? I would personally be worried about relying on Oxy. Pls keep us posted. TJM
Was going to do a new post. But this works. I have just had the three best days since this whole thing happened. I am resigned to having 10 to 12 good days and 2 bad days. Best decision I've ever made cancer wise. My wife is astounded at the change. I think I can squeeze the 20 extra pills I need from my oncologist. I'm active. My mind is better and I've been busy. Really dont understand people who wish to battle thru pain...even bearable pain...when relief is a script away. Chemo is so much more destructive than pain meds. If you take enough to take away the pain but not enough to feel euphoric your safe. Regardless. I could easily live decades feeling like I have. Love all of you Peace Tom
Susan Cornett
Hi Tom - So happy you found relief. My dad injured his arm in 2011 and the surgery just ruined the nerves and he's been in constant pain ever since. He's on oxy for the pain and every once in a while, he says "what if I'm addicted?" He's retired, doesn't drive so in my opinion, he can be addicted if he wants because he's not in pain. The stress from the pain causes him to have seizures so I'm happy to take a chance on the oxy. I still have pain from time to time around my lobectomy scar - sometimes stabbing pains and sometimes spasms. Thankfully Super Doc set me up with meds. I've only asked for them a couple of times. Keep us posted.
