RJN Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Finally got confirmation that my PDL numbers are high enough that I will be given only immunotherapy for my first treatment. It is obviously a relief not to have to jump into chemo straightaway (although I am aware it may be needed later). The doctors also seem to prefer this option for someone who is still relatively young, healthy and overall not affected by the cancer (yet). I have looked but can’t seem to find anybody on this site who had this as the first treatment, and was hoping to find someone to share their experience. Please let me know if you have some nuggets of insight so I have an opportunity to prepare myself mentally. Thank you, Rikke
Rower Michelle Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 Hi Rikke. Here’s a couple of ideas- you might want to check out Facebook, I do believe they have a closed lung cancer support page. You may also want to connect with the Lungevity help line to see if you can be matched to a phone buddy. @LUNGevityKristin do you have any of the specific links from FB? Hang tight, help and information is on the way. Michelle
LUNGevityKristin Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 Hi! Yes, we do have an Immunotherapy specific Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/immunolung And here is more information regarding immunotherapy: https://www.lungevity.org/for-patients-caregivers/navigating-your-diagnosis/treatment-options/immunotherapy If you would like to be matched with a mentor who has been through the same treatment, please sign up here: https://www.lungevity.org/for-patients-caregivers/support-services/peer-to-peer-mentoring Also, we have a Facebook group for younger adults diagnosed with lung cancer that you might want to join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/YASlung Hope this helps, but feel free to keep asking questions here, too!
