Kelvin4426
Hi guys so my mom is egfr positive did 1 course of chemo and about 4 weeks in radiation starting today she's doing her 2nd course of chemo but after this will start immunotherepy. Just curious of why they will put her on immunotherepy even if she's egfr positive. Doctors say she will get targeted therepy if the cancer ever comes back which is odd of them saying that as they seem to already know it is gonna go away
Judy M2
Your mom should get a second opinion with an EGFR lung cancer specialist to confirm this is the right treatment plan. Even if it's a virtual consult. I'm not sure if the Dana Farber Chen-Huang Center for EGFR Mutant Lung Cancers in Boston, MA is still doing virtual consults for second opinions. Having said that, I don't know how the Canadian health system works and whether a second opinion is an option for you.
LilyMir
Is your mom seeing a lung oncologist Kelvin? Maybe your mom also has high PDL1 too and immunotherapy is possible for her? Check out the protocols online at BCCA, they specify what they use for different stages. Ask lots of questions. Dana Farber has remote second opinion for oncology, but not radiation as I recall, but you can double check. MSK has second opinions online too. Both are $2-3K if I recall right so not cheap but not horrific.
