HI all..well my dad had his broncoscopy this AM. and came through it like a trooper. Doctor said that he got as close to the tumor as possible to take specimen which is in the upper right frontal lobe. He said he didn't see any other involvement, bronchial tubes, etc. Thank God. Guess I just have to wait for the biopsy report and take the next step. Now does the pulmonary specialist set up appt with oncologist or does his medical doctor? I will not put my Dad through chemo at his age, 84, but he is very adamant about having radiation, as he did it before with his prostate cancer. Any suggestions?

Good going for your Dad! Sounds like he has a great spirit and attitude. Both my pulmo and my family doctor made appointments with oncologists. I picked the one favored by my regular doctor and am very glad I did. So, to answer your question, it could be either one. If you know some of the oncs personally or by reputation that could help you decide. Once you have your first meetings, you will get a feel right away if the "fit" is right. If you don't feel good and positive about the first oncologist, don't be hesitant to change. In any case, a second or third opinion can be really helpful and reassuring. A competent onc will welcome the additional input (my onc was the one who suggested I look into another opinion). Hoping for the very best possible outcomes.

Most of the recent studies say that older people with the same performance stats, etc do pretty well with chemo. Also there is chemo like Navelbine that has less side effects.

I wouldnt rule it out either - just make sure you know all the pros and cons.
