Guest bean_si (Not Active)
My scans (thoracic spine, chest and bone scan) showed tumor in right lung decreased since last month 5.6 x 6 cm. to 5.4 x 5.2, originally 8.5 x 8.0) One hot spot near 6th left rib, probably traumatic not malignant. Chest x-ray showed left lung had some decreased volume and slight pleural effusion. Hmmm, this is only about 2 hours after the paramedics said my oxygen levels were 100%. Yeah, bad last two days - extreme pain in chest and abdomen - almost passed out, copious sweating - then ER and admission but I'm home now and glad to be. CT tests showed various weird problems like hemangiomas in spine and 2 lesions in liver and some prominence of intrahepatic biliary tree. Huh? Still waiting for onc office to call with bone scan results. I know the results because I went to hospital and picked up report. However, my onc did come to visit even though my primary had admitted me. He also reviewed the thoracic and chest CTs and called me. He did a digest of them saying they were negative and lung/chest scan showed no active cancer cells. That ain't what the report said. It just said the tumor shrunk. And last week, the onc said no one can say if the remaining tumor is cancerous or non-cancerous. I'm confused.

ginnyde
Bean-si, I agree with Ray, keep asking and questioning. You have the absolute right to know what the tests are indicating, so that you can make informed decisions about your health. Ginny PS. Could you share your first name with us???? Guest bean_si (Not Active)
Thanks Ginny, I did go in this morning and asked both my rad onc and primary to interpret tests. The main concern was the 6th rib and they both think it is from trauma, although I told them I had NOT fallen, etc. They can't be absolutely sure but they're pretty sure. My nickname is Cat from Caitlin.
Lisa O
Cat, Did you have a thoracotomy? That causes rib trauma.... I have a spot on my ribs from my surgery. It does sound like your doc has some talking to do. Please keep us posted. Lisa
Guest bean_si (Not Active)
Lisa, I had a bronchoscopy (sp?) for biospy that went all wrong. My BP dropped to 60/48 and so I couldn't have any pain medicine. Then they only got necrotic cells and I had to go through two guided needle biopsies. But that was before the initial brain scan in late December. I don't know what could cause damage to my left rib. I'm trying to be positive and say it was a bone bruise from some bump I don't remember. But I notice I am coughing more and extremely tired. The cough could be from gastric reflux disease (I'm telling myself) and the fatigue from depression. (Reason deleted) Didn't mean to ramble and be a cry-baby. Lisa O
Cat, You are not being a baby. It does sound like you need an "in person" support group... no one should be physically alone for the tough course of treatment. Check with your hospital to see if there is a Gildas or hospital support group nearby. I don't know why your daugher is lacking in the support department right now but perhaps finding another avenue would be more reassuring for you. Good luck. stand4hope
Cat, I'm so sorry for all the trouble you are having recently, but I am glad you are back home where you want to be. I hope you get everything squared away with your doctors and the test results, and that you find out what's going on with that rib. About your daughter. I can identify a little because my son is kind of the same way. I won't go into his story here, but he just can't deal with people being very sick, in nursing homes, death, or anything like that. He doesn't cope in a positive way. Perhaps your daughter is similar and that's why she can't stay with you during chemo - it's just tearing her apart. I do hope you find an alternative support system of some type. You really need somebody looking in on you and keeping track of what all is going on. God bless you, Peggy
