Guest
After weeks of worrying we got unexpected news, the tumor is not cancer. The surgeon told us it was a servere infectious lung tumor and the frozen section showed no cancer;further studies would be done to confirm. We were so excited with the news that I didn't think to ask what kind of tumor it was. We got bad news along with the good and we will deal with that as time passes. My husband was moved from the short-stay floor to another because of breathing difficulties after surgery, we found out he has only 30% total lung capacity and must stay in the hospital for 4-5 days. I knew his lungs were bad but my husband had told me that the left lung was the worst, it was awful to hear the news that it included both lungs. That is why I try to go with my husband to all doctor's appointments, he must have mis-understood as he told me he had severe copd and that the left lung was the worst--not both. The dr. also informed us that he is high-risk for devoloping lung cancer and must have ct scans done periodically. I went for my pulmonary specialist appointment on Tuesday and must have anothe PFT test and chest x-ray. The dr. tells me I have the beginning of COPD/asthma. I also found out that my last chest x-ray showed pulmonary hyperinflation. I also asked him about other testing but he tells me that he doesn't feel I need anything. He told me that the second-hand smoke has caught up with me and the only thing I can do is avoid smoking areas, keep exercising and repeat check-ups. I am having my PFT done at another hospital and I insisted that the whole test be done not just the parts they felt like doing, I have another pulmonary appointment on the 26th of July, if I don't get some more answers I will be seeking another specialist. So sorry this is long
Guest bean_si (Not Active)
Glad to hear the good news - not happy about the bad news about your husband's breathing difficulties. I will pray that he feels better. I'm glad you are insisting on having complete PFT testing done on yourself at another hospital. Catching any problem early makes a difference. Snowflake
After weeks of worrying we got unexpected news, the tumor is not cancer. WONDERFUL!! The dr. also informed us that he is high-risk for devoloping lung cancer and must have ct scans done periodically. NOT bad news...increased risk isn't great, but having a doctor KNOW that it's a possibility AND serious scanning is a BIG PLUS in catching this monster early! Hope your tests come out okay, Bert!
