Sunshine On My Shoulders

by John Denver

sunshine, on my shoulders - makes me happy

sunshine, in my eyes - can make me cry

sunshine, on the water - looks so lovely

sunshine, almost always - makes me high

if i had a day that i could give you

i'd give to you a day just like today

if i had a song that i could sing for you

i'd sing a song to make you feel this way

sunshine, on my shoulders - makes me happy

sunshine, in my eyes - can make me cry

sunshine, on the water - looks so lovely

sunshine, almost always - makes me high

if i had a tale that i could tell you

i'd tell a tale sure to make you smile

if i had a wish that i could wish for you

i'd make a wish for sunshine all the while

sunshine, on my shoulders - makes me happy

sunshine, in my eyes - can make me cry

sunshine, on the water - looks so lovely

sunshine, almost always - makes me high

sunshine almost al the times makes me high

sunshine, almost always

Thanks for the sunshine and all Snowflake, but you know I'm filling in for Ry. I have to fine you $10 for posting the lyrics of a John Denver song....

It could be worse, Barry Manilow is $20.

Dear, dear DavidA...here's a song, JUST for you - another whacked out favorite of mine, this from Little Jimmy Dickens and OH-SO-FITTING a reply....

Music, Maestro!

May the Bird Of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose

Artist: Little Jimmy Dickens (peak Billboard position # 1 in 1965)

Words and Music by Neal Merritt

One fine day as I was a-walkin' down the street

Spied a beggar man with rags upon his feet

Took a penny from my pocket

In his tin cup I did drop it

I heard him say as I made my retreat

CHORUS

"May the bird of paradise fly up your nose"

"May an elephant caress you with his toes"

"May your wife be plagued with runners in her hose"

"May the bird of paradise fly up your nose"

The laundry man is really on his toes

Found a hundred-dollar bill among my clothes

When he called me I came a-runnin'

Gave him back his dime for phonin'

I heard him sayin' as I turned to go

CHORUS

I was way behind one day to catch the train

Taxi driver said "We'll make it just the same"

The speed cop made it with us

And as he wrote out the ticket

I stood by politely a-waitin' for my change

Oh, DavidA! You big baby! Imagine, feeling threatened by a DEAD, genius of a man... Do a little research on the guy and his song writing and THEN get back to me.

I, for one, see poetry in the song....I can visualize the sunshine and actually feel the warmth, but I don't live as far under the rock as you do, being a man and all... :P

Geesh!

I balk at the Lawrence Welk show...absolute refusal...

As for Annie's Song, it's my favorite. Played it in a pageant for my "talent"...haunting tune on a flute...scared the whole darned audience that I might win! LOL - not even close... Guess I've never been the "sweet little thang", even when I was cute...

Do you have any of Da Yoopers tunes?? Are THOSE legal at the party??

Polka here on Sunday mornings...one-two-three, hop-two-three, spin-two-three...ROFL

I remember those sunday mornings, when I was in college, and that;s ALL there was on the radio... polka music..... ARGH.... rofl......

I'm with you Becky.....

Elton John did one number called Crazy Blue Eyes that was kinda sappy and goofy, but I liked it anyway...

"Your song" was sappy too.

DavidA, NOT A WORD!........

lol

XOXOX

I saw this post the night my dad died. In fact the time says 1:54 p.m. - my dad died at 1:47 p.m. I read what Becky wrote that night, and so much appreciated the words. I was trying to find something to make me feel happy and the courage to post about my dad's death, but I just couldn't do it that night. I only read a few posts that night, but I started to cry again when I read this one.

Anyway, I didn't understand the posts that followed and was too distraught that night to question it. I still don't understand some of the subsequent posts. Since Becky posted this in the Spirituality forum, I'm sure she meant it to give us ALL a little bit of sunshine, something I was certainly needing that night. I know others on here are needing some sunshine, too. She called it "Sharing Some Sunshine."

Becky, thank you for sharing some sunshine with me that day. I know you didn't know I needed it that night . . . but then again, somehow maybe you did. Thank you, Becky.

Love,

Peggy

P.S. According to the dictionary, "sappy" means overly sentimental, so I guess this post is a sappy post.

Oh no, I started it, I get to pick the Manilow tune...heheheh

I normally catch this one in an elevator or on hold and can't get the darn chorus out of my head...

- and for the record, DavidA, I don't recall rattling YOUR cage or kicking over your rock. I'll have to be more cautious, I guess...

Copa Cabana

Barry Manilow

Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl

With yellow feathers in her hair, and a dress cut down to there

She would Merengue and do the Cha-Cha

And while she tried to be a star, Tony always tended bar

Across the crowded floor, they worked from 8 'til 4

They were young and they had each other

Who could ask for more

Chorus:

At the Copa, Copa Cabana

The hottest spot North of Havana

Here at the Copa, Copa Cabana

Music and passion were always the fashion

At the Copa

They fell in love

Copa, Copa Cabana

His name was Rico, he wore a diamond

He was escorted to his chair, he saw Lola dancing there

And when she finished, he called her over

But Rico went a bit too far, Tony sailed across the bar

And then the punches flew, and chairs were smashed in two

There was blood and a single gun shot

But just who shot who

{Chorus}

She lost her love

Copa, Copa Cabana

Copa, Copa Cabana

Copa Cabana

Copa, Copa Cabana

Life in Havana

Have a banana

Music and passion, always in fashion

Her name is Lola, she was a showgirl

And that was 30 years ago, when they used to have a show

Now it's a disco, but not for Lola

Still in the dress she used to wear, faded feathers in her hair

She sits there so refined, and drinks herself half blind

She lost her youth and she lost her Tony

Now she lost her mind

{Chorus}

Don't fall in love

Don't fall in love

Copa Cabana

Copa Cabana

Copa, Copa Cabana

Copa Cabana (repeat 'til end)
