richinsdakota
Think Ive just learned that RFA is not routinely used in lieu of surgery; only recommended for non-operable tumors, if I understand the FDA discussion correctly...still not sure which category I am till Tues.... Can anyone confirm this? Or point to info that would? thx again.

john
RFA would probably best be used for 2-4 separate lesions in different lobes. If there is a single tumor in one lobe then a lobectomy probably makes more sense. It also *might* make sense for someone who has poor lung function. One of the important things about surgery is to get a negative margin. There has to be enough cancer free tissue around the tumor removed for it to be sucessful. This insures that all the tumor is actually removed. I would also think that if one's lung function is VERY poor then maybe RFA would be used to spare one's lung function.
