  1. Just wondering if anyone knows if this is a possibility. My mother has been complaining of bad pain to her upper arm area. She says it hurts from her shoulders to her elbows.

Since she is in hospice now, there will be no testing to see what is causing this.

This is a fairly sudden symptom. If this were from arthritis wouldn't the pain have come on gradually?

    Thanks for any help.

  2. Cheryl,

The hospice program that my mother is in is available 24 hours a day. They encourage us to call at any time if we need to. I would try to call them and ask if you can do anything for the pain right now. I will bet they will have you increace something and then they will probably pay you both a visit later on in the day.

I was told to call at 3 in the morning if I had to!

    Best of luck,

    Linus

  3. Bill,

I have to say I cannot stop thinking about you and your wife and the WBR problem you are facing.

I am so convinced that WBR is the reason my Mother is so ill now. The weakness, inability to walk, the forgetfullness, ETC. I just want to thank you for bringing this issue to light. Not one of my Mother's doctors have ever mentioned this possibility to me.

Not one of her Doctors ever mentioned the side effects of WBR. Do you feel that it is not mentioned because they feel prognosis is too short for it to matter?

Just wanted you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Edited to ask for an update! That was the whole reason for this post to begin with!

  4. Bill,

This is so horrible! I feel like this WBR treatment is something right out of a medical horror novel. My mother had WBR last fall and she is also getting worse. We were never told about the side effects of WBR. I have been searching for reasons as to why my mother's mind seems to be "going"so rapidly. I was told she has dementia!

It was not untill I read a post by you a couple of weeks ago that everything clicked. I now believe that all of her symptoms, memory loss, lack of coordination, speech problems, weakness, etc., are all a result of WBR.

Thank you so much for bringing this out for people to learn about. I really wish I would have known about it before my mother had WBR. I believe QUALITY of life is more important that QUANTITY. And my mother's quality is terrible right now.

    Best wishes for your wife,

    Linus

  5. Thanks everyone for all of the advice. I think that the medications are, indeed, the issue. The main culprit being a patch for motion sickness called scopalamine. Hospice gave this drug to my mom for nausea because nothing else was taking care of that.

Well, it worked great for the nausea but had some pretty bad side effects!

She is doing much better today. For the last couple of months, she had been declining and pretty confused but nothing like this.

Thank you all for your prayers and advice because without the advice, I probably would have continued to put that patch on her!

  6. In just one short day my mom has rapidly declined. I was with her Sunday morning and we had breakfast and everything was fine. She was living at her apartment. By Sunday afternoon, I got a call saying she was wandering the apt. complex lost.

My husband and I went over to help her and I discovered that her meds were messed up and some were possible missing. Off to the hospital to make sure she did not take them. (she is a Hospice patient and we are not even supposed to go to the hospital anymore but I did not know what to do!)

Hospital did a cat scan of her head while we were there and nothing was found much to my surprise. My mom as of now, has no idea what is going on. Doesn't know who I am, the day, date, month, year or just about anything. How can this happen so fast?

Hospice says sometime a decline can happen very fast, but in 1 day?

I had to move her out of her apt. yesterday and into a hospice residence where she can be watched 24 hours a day. She is suddenly very restless and agitated about things. (That started while she was still at her own home)

Sorry to ramble. I feel so lost and scared right now. No one will tell me why or what all of this means. How can one's mind go so quickly when no mets or swelling is found?

  7. I too, worry about every cough or any "new" thing being a new symptom. I try to remember that I make myself crazy when I do that. I can really start to believe it is a new symptom or sign of cancer and then when a Dr. checks it out it is usually nothing.

Just hang in there and try to keep your chin up!

  8. I called my mom this afternoon to check on her and she had a heck of a time talking. She could say 2 or 3 words at the beginning of a sentence and the rest was just jibberish. She could clearly say the jibberish (If that makes sence) but it make no sence.

The Hospice nurse thinks brain mets may have been the cause. It really makes me CRAZY to not know what the heck happened today! I am thinking maybe a seizure.

Either way, it was so scary. After a little while she was back to herself. Anyone ever hear of anything like this?

    Thanks!

  9. My worst date was the first date with my husband.

The date took place on his birthday so I met him at a bar. Prior to our date, he had gone to every bar in town to get his "free birthday drink" So, yes, he was ripped! He was loud, obnoxious and sloppy and I have no idea in the world why I gave him a second chance at a date. But I am so very glad I did because he is wonderful to me and nothing at all like he was on our first date!
