  1. Mom was supposed to start chemo last week, but was so run down from not sleeping that we decided along with the Doc that her starting chemo wouldn't be the best idea since she was only getting 2-3 hours a night of sleep. So, she started chemo Tuesday, Carboplatin and Taxol. 5 hour treatments, every three weeks for 6 cycles. So far doing o.k. Nausea, but no vomiting thank goodness! I am just praying she can get through this as easily as possible. Sorry I haven't been posting lately, just been busy trying to take care of mom and my 82 yr old grandmother who still lives on her own! It's only my mom and grandmother down here in Florida, and usually my mom is my grandmother's primary care taker until all this started.

    Thanks for listening.

    Prayers to all

  2. Brandie, not sure if this will help. But my mom, has 3 brain mets areas. She was started on WBR about 1 and 1/2 wks after discharge from hospital. She did 5 days a week for 3 weeks (15 tx's). Now she is to start chemo for the lung. I remember them saying something about not being able to radidate the brain and do lung chemo at the same time, but I cannot recall why. Best of luck, keep praying.

  3. My mom is having a really hard time staying asleep at night. She tried taking Advil Pm. No go. Then the doc gave her a prescription for Vistaril 25mg. Tried it last night, 1 tablet, no go. She wakes EVERY hour. Eventually gets up @ 4 am and is just so tired. So tonight she is going to try 2 tabs (doc said if 1 didn't work, try 2) Anyone experienced this?

  4. My mother just finished her last WBR treatment today. For the past couple of days, she has been having a "medicinal" taste in her mouth. She is taking Decadron 2mg twice a day, and Tegretol for seizure precautions. We are assuming that the taste is a side effect from the radiation. Anyone know of this?

  5. Hello. My mother was diagnosed June 28th after going to ER with horrible headaches. Determined there were 3 tumors in her brain, which had metastised from a tumor they foung in her left lung. She has been weaning down off the decadron now. She started WBR for the 3 tumors 3 weeks ago and finished today. Saw a Medical oncologist yesterday for the lung, said it is not curable, surgery is not an option b/c it has already spread to the brain once, and wants to start chemo carboplatin and taxol(i think that's what it is) next thursday, 1 time a week for 3 weeks. Then check the blood levels and go from there. He stated the averages for survival with stage IV are 6 mos to a year. This just seems to be happening so fast, and with such horrible news. My mom is only 52, and healthy other than this. Nothing else is wrong wit her. Any suggestions? Any survivors?

    thanks
