Radiation Decision

Hello everyone!

I met with a radiation oncologist at the City of Hope yesterday to review the PET (which showed higher metabolic activities in lung and bone spots) and MRI scans and decided to proceed with radiation (SBRT) for the lung and metabolically active bone spots. This radiation oncologist specializes in thoracic radiotherapy and has done 1000+ cases, so I think I would be in the best hands doing it there (two hours away, rather than doing it at a local hospital that likely isn’t as experienced with my type of cancer). The radiation oncologist suggested stopping Tagrisso during lung radiation plus 2 days before and 2 days after. I’m scared of what the cancer might do for those 9 days. The radiation oncologist recommended a total of 10 days of SBRT. Does a shorter course mean higher toxicity compared to a longer course (less radiation per day)?
