My moms doctor said she would experience that from radiation (probably not just during) but that if she sucked on candy that would help. I have never heard of pain meds causing a long lasting metalic taste. I dunno

I have a question that I do not want to bring up to my mom or her doctor because I don't want it to scare my mom for no reason. When a CT scan is done would that show things in the brain also? It hasn't spread to anywhere except maybe her lymph nodes in her mediastinum. Or do I need to ask the doctor to check it out with a MRI? I want to be sure that it is all checked out but my mom has mentioned how scared she would be if it spread to her brain. Do CT show the brain as well?

Val - My mom to has just recently started treatment and is very weak and tired and just doesn't look nor sound to be herself. I think the treatments are very rough and that time will tell you what needs to be done. God will let you know where you need to be and when! Just ask

Sometimes I find just being there to listen and to talk and think positive works. Sometimes my mom brings me into her anger and hurt and we feed off of each other and get nowhere. I have to cautiously remind myself that around her I have to be encouraging, upbeat and positive thinkinf for her.
Stay strong

Just updating everyone on our decision NOT to do the electromagnetic field treatment in Mexico at this time. The only reason it was even a thought is because surely there is a cure for this and the pharmaceutical companies just don't want it in the states because they would lose to much money. After coming to our senses and coping with our emotions and realizing that there is hope here we have started treatment and will not pursue anything with Mexico unless we are told not good news
Thankyou everyone for being patient with my questions and sometimes insanity (I feel like)
Also is it okay to vomit once and have diarrhea while just finishing chemo treatments and still ongoing radiation? Very mild just two episodes of vomiting and only one of diarrhea.

I was just wondering if anyone has or has had a superior sulcus tumor.I would just like a little information on it. My mom has a superior sulcus tumor and I have been reading that fewer than 5% of Lung cancer are of this kind. Hope everyone had a great Christmas

To all that were a little harsh towards me regarding my mom and her smoking Thank You. Everyone was right and I had no place to be angry as I was. I am disappointed but however why was I not disappointed before she had cancer? Everyone was right and I am now more understanding of the decisions she is making. I think I was more hurt with her lyine to me than anything. Thanks

Hello everyone! I am very angry and disappointed right now. My family is very close (or so I thought) but I have caught my mom lying to me about smoking. First time I caught her she told me the truth, second time she is blaming my dad and my dad is covering for her. Then I caught her again in the same day and this time I did not even confront her. I understand she is a grown woman and can make her own choices, however, I have got questions that she probably won't answer due to her lying. My mother has always told me that there is one thing she hates and that is a liar so I don't understand this at all. Why would she be lying? Is she embarrased? How can someone still smoke after finding out they have lung cancer (I quit when she found out she had it) ? What would cause my mother to start lying to me we have always been so close and open with each other. Please I am ready to just give up I need advice on how to deal with this. I told her she will not get better if she keeps poisoning herself. She won't tell the doctor the truth because she feels no one will want to help her if she says she is still smoking. That is what she told me the first time I caught her. PLEASE HELP! I am so frustrated.

Does anyone else seem to have had a cough that has lasted a very long time? Will this ever subside for my mother? She rarely is coughing up blood but continously coughing. Thanks

My mom went for chemo and radiation for the first time today. I am wondering if all those horrible stories about chemo are true. Do people really get very sick and weak? Also my mom is already tiny losing weight may not be to good any suggestions on how to help her to keep her weight up? What are other side effects can chemo and radiation have? Any advice that a cancer patient has to help me to help my mother and not "annoy" her will be helpful. What should I expect?
She has 5 weeks radiation and chemo treatment weeks 1 and 5.

Thanks everyone for your prayers and support. My mom goes to the Doc. tommorrow to find out when she starts her chemo and radiation. Tumor size is approxiamately 8 cm. on top right lobe of lung. Doctor says it is in a favorable spot. Even though she has been diagnosed with this she can possibly be cured but if not cured she can live with it for years? I am going to tell her about this site, but I fear she will be mad at me for doing this (she is apprehensive about internet). Any suggestions on how to bring this up and also anyone willing to offer her some encouraging stories? Thanks all. Happy Holidays.

My mom who turned 45 Sept 25 was just diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer in stage IIIA. She was a smoker for 30 years and has since quit. We are a very close family. Doctors said she has a 35 to 40% chance of survival. She is thinking about having electromagnetic field treatment done in Mexico anyone know much about that kind of treatment? Also can someone suggest how I can deal with the emotions she is having. She is angry, sad, scared and anxious all in a matter of minutes. Does anyone have words of encouragement or ways that I can help her through her hard times?
Thanks [/b]
