    Head garments

Hi everyone. My mom has begun losing her hair from the chemo and she has me looking for a head garment. I've seen women wearing them around the hospital, but I didn't want to stop someone and just ask. I didn't want to be rude, plus the hair problem has only become a recent issue. Still, does anyone know a good retailer or online site where one can shop these garments? Thanks in advance. -John availabilityme@yahoo.com

    Ethics

Hello Everyone. Just to be sure. Is it unethical to offer placebo, or any deviation in protocol during a clinical trial? Specifically phase I. Thanks -John
  3. Hi everyone. Thanks for all the advice you've given me so far, but I'm back seeking more good info. Again, my mom was just diagnosed with small cell stage 4 lung cancer[adenocarcinoma]. I am trying to keep her spirits up because she starts chemo on monday. She is very down and I am not sure what to say anymore. I've been getting stuff in the mail from the various major cancer resources, also I've been reading some books about lung cancer. The one book said to make sure you are informed about all of your options, and sometimes doctors can be preferential to their own clinical trials, or ignorant that others exist. Obviously I want to make sure that doesn't happen. Everything I am getting from you guys and texts says knowledge is key. I happened to come across this article on ACS's website that made me curious about this drug. http://www.cancer.org/docroot/FPS/conte ... teArea=LRN Here is more information on it, but I am unclear as to whether it was recalled in the US or not. http://www.medicinenet.com/gefitinib/article.htm The drugs name is Irressa, or gefitinib. Can anyone shed some more light on this drug for me? Much appreciated. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. -John
  4. Hi everyone. My mom has stage 4 lung cancer an I am writing on her behalf. I am new to the board and this is only my second post. I have two quick questions and would appreciate any insight offered. Is there a specific diet recommended for cancer patients? I have the book on what you should eat if you have cancer, but I am wondering if any of that has changed or if anyone on here has individual experience with what works best. Other than recieve emotional support is there anything my mom can do to help her endure the chemo? Thanks so much for your help and I wish you all well. -John availabilityme@yahoo.com
  5. Hello everyone. I just found this group and I am writing on behalf of my mom. It was found that she has stage iv lung cancer and we just went to the Hillman center [uPMC Pittsburgh] yesterday to find out the treatment options. I was not at all satisfied with the understanding by the doctor there. There was no team approach and they seemed very eager to enroll her into a clinical trial. The clinical trial includes the two normal chemo drugs carboplatin and taxol and they want to add VALCADE as the trial drug. They say that they are doing this trial elsewhere in the USA but cannot give data about it's success thus far. Should I be skeptical of a clinical trial that seems like it was almost pressured? Also, has anyone else been exposed to this trial (or these drugs individually? How important is a second opinion? At this point we are looking to proceed with the chemo because a second opinion can be attained even after treatment begins. Can anyone direct me to other types of support groups in addition to this one that have alot of people participating? Are there any options I am missing? Thank you -John availabilityme@yahoo.com
