  2. Hello guys ! Long time I didn't write in the forum... For information : http://www.bellessoirees.umontreal.ca/cancer.html (sorry the abstract is in French). Anaïs

    Tired feeling?

Jay, I heard that chemo could give anemia. You should ask your oncologist about your Complete Blood Count and hemoglobin level to see if your fatigue may be caused by chemo-related anemia... Anais

  10. Hey guys! My mother had her brain CT-scan results : no tumors ! Also, the liquid around the heart (pericardial effusion) has gone down... Anaïs
  11. Hello! As you see in my signature, my mother was also dx with NSCL adenocarcinoma (stage IV). She started carboplatin/gemcitabine chemo a month ago and she also takes chinese herbs. She has to boil them and drink the liquid (250 ml). Here is a website about chinese herbs and lung cancer : http://www.internethealthlibrary.com/He ... search.htm Regards, Anaïs
  12. Hi! Did anyone hear about antineoplaston therapy? I read about it and it's a successful alternative to chemo/radiation therapy... Take a look at these websites : http://www.burzynskipatientgroup.org/antitherapy.html http://www.healthy.net/asp/templates/ar ... sp?id=2005
  13. Find a good chinese doctor in your area (who studied chinese medicine in Asia). My mom's Chinese Dr prescribed her raw herbal formula (he mixes herbs and she cooks them). The advantage is more potent and easy to modify... Look at this website : http://www.geocities.com/sing_kio/mystory.html It's the story of someone who was dx stage IV LC and managed to cure himself with Chinese herbs... Regards, Anaïs
  14. Hello, My mother is a stage IV NSCLC and she's receiving Carboplatin/Taxol and Gemcitabin. No side effects yet. She's combining chemo with Chinese cancer herbs. We read about Chinese medicine and the response rate is 80%! Regards, Anaïs
  15. Hi! Anyone here had pericardial effusion? My mother's oncologist took some fluid out (around her heart) and it's still coming back... Pericardial effusion (like pleural effusion) is a consequence of stage IV lung cancer. Anaïs
  16. Hello Migeon, My mother is about the same age as your husband and she was diagnosed with NSCLC stage IV at the end of April. It has spread to both lungs... This really came as a surprise! She doesn't smoke. On this website http://www.oncology.com/plwc/Shared/plw ... 51,00.html there is a story of a woman who was diagnosed with stage IV NSCLC in 1999 and in 2003 she is still alive! She completely changed her lifestyle. As she is saying, the more important is to « get yourself the best medical care you possibly can - travel, research every aspect of your cancer, and find doctors who are willing to help you. » Regards, Anaïs

    Cortisone

Hi! My mom had really bad side effets after her second chemo (Carboplatin/Taxol/Gemcitabin) and she was getting very weak. The oncologist prescribed her cortisone and now she eats 3 normal meals. Could it be dangerous to take cortisone for a long period of time? It has been 2 weeks now... Anaïs
  18. Hello, My mother was diagnosed a month ago with stage IV adenocarcinoma. She had no symptoms before. This means she went through all 4 stages without noticing anything. Is this normal? Regards, Anaïs
  19. Hello Dave, Did you have any symptoms when you were at stage I? My mother had no signs of cancer until stage IV (shortness of breath, dry cough, fatigue). Anaïs
  20. The oncologist says it's not operable : there is a big tumor in the left lung and some diffusion in the right lung. She never smoked! She had malignant pleural effusion last week, they drained the liquid with a chest tube. They also suspect pericardial effusion (liquid around the heart). Anaïs
  21. Hello, I'm a 23 year-old student (masters in linguistics), living in Montreal, Canada. My mother was diagnosed a month ago with stage IV adeno. The oncologist is giving her less than a year to live and 4% chance to live 3 more months with chemo (carboplatin, taxol & gemcitabine). She wants to try Chinese medecine combined with chemo. Anyone here with an advanced LC has good results with alternative medecines? Thanks! Anaïs
