Thank you for Connie's update. My prayers are with her. She's the

senior member of our family. I was telling my radiologist about her and

her lenghtly remission. He said that was really a long time. I knowshe

can do it again. I told Connie my dad had resided in Wisconsin, don't

even ask me why I thought Minnesota and Milwaukee were in the same state. We both like polkas. Connie is probably gettin anxious, but she

has so many people routing her on. Please keep us posted. It seems

There was only 1 brain met and it was treated by the gamma knife to

be followed by wholehead radiation starting next Wednesday. The

radiologist said I would be around for sometime. This was very treatable.

I felt marvelous. Other than a sore head I'm up and about and feel

good. While they did the gamma knife surgery I had them put on my

polka and waltz tapes. They thought it was cool. Well I have a real

D Hi to all my friends,

Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes and good thoughts.

I had my brain surgery 7/31 and all went well. The tumor was removed

and this Thursday, 8/7 I will be having Gamma knife surgery. Then on

8/11 I will be starting to get 15 treatments of full head radiation.

The Gamma knife can always be done later. The radiologist said all scans

were clean in June and then I get 2 brain mets, which could have cost

me my life. The success rate for Gamma knife is 90 percent. That is

a very encouraging statistic. The doctors are amazed at my coordination

and memory. They will monitor me very closely every 3 months with

Brain MRI's. that way they can attack the lesions in early stages. The main

concern was chest, abdoman and liv er. The brain was clear this past

November 02. I will let you know the outcome. I've had a very gratifying year and certainly a scarry one. I'm enjoying the small

things in life and the riches we are blessed with and are sometimes unaware of. All the people on this board whether they are caregivers.,

patients , family are very, very strong and humble people. God Bless

You all, you are my other family,

I am so happy to hear of your empty head. This stuff is so scary.

God Bless you both. It's a long hard road for everyone.

I was doing so well, in June all Bone and cat scans clean.

Now I have 2 brain mets. They are taking one out this Wed. or I won't

be here in amonth. I believe radiation to follow. Success rate 95 per

cent. Will be mobile and functional. Have one in left temple which will

have gamma knife later. Feel wonderful. Just as long as no pain

and can get around. Lucy's news made me feel so good. Your prayers

and inspirations are so valuable on this board.

Congratulations on your second anniversary and good luck on the

So glad to hear your golf outing was a success. I know how you were

looking forward to it. This monstor really something else. I was doing

so well in remission sincre 8/28/02 from Adenocarcinoma Stage IV and

now two brain mets. So it will be surgery followed by radiation or radiation only or gamma knife with radiation. I feel great. I've been

if I have this done. Otherwise a nursing home. I will do whatever they

want, but I feel sooo scared. Well lets keep up our good fight and let

So happy to hear about your mom's CT scan. That is great news.

It's so nerve wracking going for them and waiting for the results.

I think everyone here prays for everyone and their family and caregivers.

Longer life, yes. Remember, the time the doctors give is only from

    Keep up your good spirits.

You know I lost my hair 3 weeks after chemo and ended up

  20. Hi Terrrie,

I think I know what your mother is experiencing. I had quit smoking

14 years before they diagnosed my cancer. They saidI was Stage 11B

and had my entire right lung removed. No follow up necessary they said.

I could't believe after all those years of not smoking to get this. Then

3 months later in April, it spread to my lymph nodes and I was restaged

to 1V- Adenocarcinoma nsclc. At first I refused to take chemo, because

I didn't want to be sick for remaining time I had left. Well I started to

get sicker and chemo was my only solution for relief. It wasn't so

bad and I am still in remission and planning a trip in January and feel

good. Get your mom on this board and let her see how many of us

are still here to give advise. Acceptance is hard, but once you do,

then the inner strength takes over and you learn that those are only

    satisics.

God Bless You and your family,

  21. Hi Kathy,

I'm sorry to hear about your bad day. I'm an only child and have one

child out of town. I have learned throughout the years, that I have to

orgainze things even if people don't call me. You know it may be that

his children think you are too tired and that Tim is also too tired to be

    bothered entertaining.

As far as being tired. My chemo ended last 8/28/02. I still get periods

that I just have to lay down. It's like I can't take another step. That

chemo is poison so it kills alot of our good cells along with our cancert

cells, so this is normal. Holidays always make things worse. This board

is my way of commuicating and sharing. It's so hard when people don't

have this disease for them to understand your limitations and feelings.

We all become concerned when there is a new ache or pain. Things will

be brighter tomorrow. I have a wonderful oncologist, he reads my scans

the day they are taken and I don't have to wait and worry like most

people do. Best wishes to you both and God Bless you both,

  22. :D I Jay,

I'm so happy to hear that you are feeling better. You know the holidays

make everything worse, especially after what you have been thru.

I know how tired you must get, but the posts are right, you have to

get out of the house. The scrap book of your mother is an excellent

ideal. This may sound crazy, but I look at a picture of my mother

everyday, and talk to her. It does make me feel better. Try it, if

not maybe just thinking of all the wonderful times, will bring you

happiness. You have been thru a lot and everything is going to take

time, but you will heal both emotionally and physcially.

    Best Wishes,
