concerned daughter in FL
Is there anything my mom can take, to relieve the itching. She is now finally using Aloe Vera (doctors did not tell her to, until I insisted she ask them if it was okay). But is there anthing she can take either orally, or topically, for the itching? Calintay
For my moms back her doctor said to use hydrocortisone cream. Good luck
Addie
Aquaphor!! It's sorta like petroleum jelly...but it really helps the radiation burns and itching. Pure aloe also is good....and less greasy feeling.
Snowflake
But NOT right before the session...nothing on the spot for at least an hour before the session.... (and every time I read this title in the list of "new posts since last visit", my head begins itching...)
Addie
Geez...Beck, good point......thanks for bringing it up, to not use ANY lotions prior to radiation. Actually, have your mom check with her techs....as I was told not to use any lotion for FOUR HOURS prior to radiation!
SDianneB
I like the Aquaphor too, but found that A&D ointment relieved the burning/itchy skin much better. A&D is for diaper rash - ha! But it was an immediate relief from the itching when I used it. I've gone back to the Aquaphor now that the itching has subsided, because it is THE best thing for keeping the skin moist, I think. concerned daughter in FL
Thank you all, for the advice. I've passed it on to my mom. We bought some hydrocortisone today, but she's going to wait until her appointment tomorrow, and check with the doctor to make sure it's okay to use it, and how far in advance to not use it. And sorry, Snowflake, for making you itch!
