    WBR

Just wondering what some of the side effects of wbr are. My mom had wbr in March and she said she has a ringing in her ears. Anyone had any experience with this. I think of everyone often and read daily i hope all is well.
  3. my mom had primary breast cancer 6 years ago. She had a lumpectomy and radiation. She was also diagnosed almost 2 years ago with primary lung cancer adenocarcinoma. We may be on to something here!
  4. Mom has just come off her steriods after having 15 wbr treatments. She seemed to have much more energy and be more herslf during the treatments which is a suprise to me. I thought she would feel better after the treatments and off the steriods. She doesn't have a lot to say and seems to be tired all the time. She is working full time and I am glad for that, but I worry about her. She says she has some pain in her right side and under her breast. The dr. thinks it is pleurisy. Praying that it is. Has anyon had in experience with wbr and steriods and what were your side effects and how long did it take to get back to your normal self? Is there anything we can do? Thanks. Hope all is well with everyone else.Prayers for all.
  5. I've been thinking about you.I am glad you have a game plan, and I will say a special prayer for your ultra sound.
  6. Found this article and thought it was interesting. Hope I placed it in the correct place. It will soon be tomatoe time here in Tennessee and I can't wait for some good home grown Grainger County Tomatoes!! Tomatoes are a member of the deadly nightshade family, and as such were considered toxic, causing many conditions like appendicitis, “brain fever” and cancer. In fact, they may have just the opposite effect. Tomatoes were not even eaten in the US until the early 1800s, when an eccentric New Jersey gentleman Colonel Robert Gibbon Johnson brought them back from a trip overseas. Always one to take advantage of a dramatic opportunity, he announced an amazing display of courage would take place on September 26, 1820. He shocked his hometown of Salem by consuming and entire basket of tomatoes in front of a crowd of spectators, expecting him to keel over any second. Obviously, he didn’t and since then tomatoes have been a staple of the American diet and with good reason. Starting with the basics, tomatoes contain large amounts of vitamin C, providing 40 percent of the daily value (DV). They also contain 15 percent DV of vitamin A, 8 percent DV of potassium, and 7 percent of the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of iron for women and 10 percent RDA for men. The red pigment contained in tomatoes is called lycopene. This compound appears to act as an antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals that can damage cells in the body. Only recently, studies have revealed that lycopene may have twice the punch of another well-known antioxidant betacarotene. Studies conducted by Harvard researchers have discovered that men who consumed 10 servings of tomatoes a week, or the equivalent to 10 slices of pizza, can cut the risk of developing prostate cancer by a formidable 45 percent. However, its benefits are not limited to the prostate. Italian researchers have found that those who consume more that 7 servings of raw tomatoes lower the risk of developing rectal colon or stomach cancers by 60 percent. Israeli researchers have found that lycopene is a powerful inhibitor of lung, breast, and endometrial cancer cells. Research has also indicated that the lycopene in tomatoes can help older people stay active longer. New research is beginning to indicate that tomatoes may be used to help prevent lung cancer. Two powerful compounds found in tomatoes-coumaric acid and chlorogenic acid-are thought to block the effects of nitrosamines. These are compounds that not only are formed naturally in the body, but also are the strongest carcinogen in tobacco smoke. By blocking the effects of these nitrosamines, the chances of lung cancer are reduced significantly. When choosing your tomatoes, be sure to pick those with the most brilliant shades of red. These indicate the highest amounts of betacarotene and lycopene. Though raw tomatoes are great for you, cooking them releases even more of the benefits. Lycopene is located in the cell wall of the tomato, so by cooking in a bit of oil, this healing compound is more fully released. In addition cooking the tomato in olive oil allows your body to absorb the lycopene better. Don’t worry about the availability of fresh tomatoes. Tomatoes don’t lose any of their nutritional value in the high heat processing , making canned tomatoes and tomato sauce are both just as viable and beneficial as fresh tomatoes.

    WBR

My mom is at the half way point of her wbr treatments. I can tell they are starting to get harder. She seems very tired and when she gets tired and weak she seems to get down in the dumps. For those of you who have had WBR or are a caregiver of someone, how long before she starts feeling better and starts to get her strength back? How were your results? I am scared about this treatment for some reason more than before. I need to hear some encouraging stories. Thanks so much. I continue to keep each of you in my prayers.
  8. mom had her 3 month scans Monday. SHe was told yesterday she has two brain mets both about 4mm. THe dr. said radiation should take care of them. Her lung and liver were stable which is great news so they are keeping her on Tarceva for at least another 3 months. Just wondering what side effects were for brain radiation and if this takes care of them, what are the chances of them reoccurring? Should he have taken her off tarceva and put her on another chemo? Any thoughts would be appreciated?
  9. My mom goes to the treatment center in Zion Ill. She loves it there. Everyone is so optimistic and encouraging. She has had good results since taking treatments there. She will actually be leaving on Sunday to go back for her 3 month scans.(rem. her in prayers). If you want more info. pm me and I will be glad to give you my moms number, she would love to be of help to someone else.
  10. Mom has been having pain in her elbow and thumb. Back in 1999 she had a lumpectomy and around 30 lympnodes taken out of that arm. She was never suppose to be given chemo in that arm. Well, when all the veins in the other arm blew they gave her chemo in that arm. So you think that could be the problem? We are praying that the cancer has not spread to that area. She goes back to the Dr. next Monday for her 2nd round of scans since starting tarceva. Please remember her in your prayers. Other than her elbow pain she is doing great and still working full time. Thanks for any thoughts you may have.
  11. mom has been on tarceva since Sept. She had scans in Dec. and they were stable. She was aching before then and her doctor told her it was from the tarceva and possibly from her previous chemo. Has anyone else had body aches while in tarceva? I think this worries her. Although she was aching before her last scans and they were stable. She says her back hurts and her hands and she just feels real stiff.
  12. My mom says that she has back aches and is really stiff first thing in the morning. I know the weather could be a cause but just wondering if anyone else has had aches from the tarceva? She has scans next week so I think a lot of it may be in her mind too. Please remember her on Monday Dec. 12th. THanks
  13. Just wondering if anyone experienced nose bleeds on Tarceva? My mom has been having them for a week or so now. She has never broke out in the rash other than a few bumps like pimples here and there. She has had diaherea a lot. I am still waiting for that rash and praying this is working.
  14. congrats Lucie You are such an inspiration . Keep up the the good fight.
  15. The dr. told mom that if the tarceva is working she would most likely have a rash. Well no rash yet. She started taking it on Sunday. I am beginning to get a bit worried. I know I posted about this earlier and most people said they broke out around day 3 or 4. I hope I am not running this in the ground but I am definetly freaked out. Hope all is well with each of you.
