  1. Besides babysitting, my first *real job* was at a variety store (Woolworths) I stocked, moved up to cashier and THEN...for Easter, they had me dress up as the Easter Bunny and walk up and down the shopping center with an easter basket and pass out candy to the kids. Pretty funny! I worked only a few hrs a week and I think my first paycheck was less than $30.00, LOL

  2. Everyone has given you excellent advice...just wanted to let you know to hang in there and hope this behavior passes quickly.

We've noticed that my mom is beginning to get *testy* at times and very needy. There are so many stages they go through and as family members, care givers it's a lot to deal with...it's like everyone affected doesn't know what is coming next!

    Gentle hugs,

    Libby

  3. Darlene,

Sorry the news wasn't better but saying prayers that the round of chemo will kick cancer's ugly butt!

So many here have had *positive* outcomes and I so hope your husband is one to add to the list.

    Love and light

  4. Oh gosh, I really don't even know you...I am so new here but my heart is just breaking for you and your husband. I don't have any solutions and not even one suggestion. Just wish I could reach out and hold you both and give you some measure of comfort.

I know someone from here will post some really helpful suggestions...and I do hope they hurry. I am lighting a candle for you just as soon as I hit submit.

Please, please take care of YOU, ok...holding you both in my prayers and close to my heart.

  5. Hi Kathleen,

Just wanted to say hi and wish your mom well. We are new to this as well...my mom was just recently dx'd and is undergoing chemo/radiation. So far, her side effects have been minimal. I just got off the phone with her and today she has terrible indigestion and I am hoping it will pass.

Your mom's attitude is wonderful and that's so important in the grand scheme of things.

    Sending prayers your way.

    Love and light

  6. I've thought of you all weekend and hope you are alright. Your posts brought me back to the time my dad was so ill and he slowly deteriorated before my eyes..sometimes, in a matter of minutes. One thing though, my time with him at the end of his journey is something I will treasure forever. I am a nurse also although not working in patient care and there were times that I truly understood the statement *ignorance is bliss*

Your love is such a wonderful gift for your husband.

God bless you both..as for your MIL, she can take a hike. I will gladly tell her, if you want me too!!!!

    Gentle hugs and many prayers

    Libby

  7. Hi again :)

My mom is just beginning her radiation/chemo regimen (this is the beginning of her 3rd week, I think) and so far the only side effect she has had from the chemo is some major nausea and fatigue. No hair loss yet! The nausea is fairly well controlled with medication and my brother bought her an anti nausea bracelet, which she says *kinda works*

I think everyone may react a little differently but we've been told that there are always things to combat the side effects..we'll see :D

Many prayers for you and yours

    Love and light

  8. Hi Beth,

Sorry you are here but very glad you've found us. This is a wonderfully supportive, informative website and please come often...

I, too, can relate as my mom was dx'd not too long ago and is undergoing radiation/chemo.

You mentioned that you are concerned that perhaps her oncologist was dragging her feet..if I may suggest, be as open as possible with your mom's doc about all of your concerns and please be sure to ask lots of questions.

When I first joined here, someone suggested that I become as informed as possible about this disease and that piece of advice has proved very helpful.

God Bless you and yours, Beth

    Gentle hugs for you both

    Love and light

  9. Wow! Terrific news, Northstar. Prayers that things continue to go well for your mom.

My mom is two weeks into her chemo and and just got an order for a scan on Sept 15th. I don't know if that is a standard time frame or if it is up to the individual doc. I am sure someone here will know a little more info.

    Many blessings

    Love and light

  10. Yikes...you have every right to vent and I am very glad you have!

Someone suggested maybe there is something they can give you to help with the discomfort...please do call your doc if you haven't already. ((((Shar))))

Years ago I had a really bad sunburn and could stand NOTHING against my skin but there were times at home when I had to put something on, so I took a twin flat sheet, folded it and cut a hole and wore it like some long draping poncho! I was a sight for sore eyes but it kinda worked.

Hope your dog comes home...I know how awful it is when one of your fur babies goes missing!

    Love and light

  11. Wanted to welcome you, Kathleen...and to let you know that your mom is in my prayers.

My mom was just recently dx'd as well, so I totally understand your shock. Taking one day at a time as helped us cope and we do try and stay as informed as possible.

The people *here* are a wealth of information and so caring...

Gentle hugs, Kathleen and remember to be good to yourself...

    Love and light

  12. Thank you all so much for the supportive, caring welcome! It's all of *you* that are amazing to me.

This board is such a blessing.

    LOL, about the baby shower!

Thanks, gail p-m for *touching base*, your post really lifted my spirits.

Prayers and hugs for all of us that our touched by this ugly critter!

    Love and light,

    Libby

  13. Hello to all! My name is Libby and my mom was just recently dx'd with NSCLC. She's 82 years young and went in to for her regular GYN appointment. Her doc noticed a small *mass* near her collar bone and wanted to have it x rayed. Turned out to be nothing but arthritis (calcification near the bone?)but the xray caught a piece of the left upper lobe of her lung and there was the dreaded nodule. Long story short...she went in for a mediastinoscopy/biopsy and the path report was NSCLC, stage IIIa.

It's been quite a journey for my mom and our entire family. We lost my dad to colon cancer four years ago and this just brings back so many memories.

Prior to all of this, she was playing golf two to three times a week, and doing lots of traveling and in great health (or so we all thought) She really did not have any symptoms other than slight fatigue but she kept saying to all of us *heck, I am 82..what do you expect*

I am so proud of her..she is being a real trooper and has a really great attitude. She said from the beginning, if the radiation/chemo made her more fatigued, nauseated, etc..she was just going to pretend she was pregnant. So, everyday when I call, I ask her how the baby is.

I am so very grateful to have found this board. I have been reading here for a few weeks and want to say thank you to each and every one of you. I feel very fortunate to *walk this path* with all of you.

Coming here, is such a comfort to me. I know I must be strong for my mom but I get scared sometimes and profoundly sad.

    God Bless you all

    Lib
