  1. Dear Spunky -

Just a little input here. I was diagnosed last July with NSCLC, and I had been coughing up blood for years - my PCP just told me it was my asthma - so I don't know if that particular symptom is necessarily "towards the end". I had chemo, radiation and surgery after those "coughing up blood" days as well as being on seven types of medication for what they thought was "asthma".

There is so much hope and positive news on these posts - I'll be praying for you both!

  2. I can appreciate the medical benefit thing. My friends wanted me to go to UPMC for a second, however I was so confident in my surgeon - he and his staff are so knowledgeable and compasionate. Never once did he say "if" we do surgery, etc. It was always "when" - and then the means to the end. That place was great!

Unfortunately. when I asked in PGH and here locally I was told there were general cancer groups, but not lung cancer. My oncologist in Beaver has one like that. I was told several times here and at AGH - breast cancer support groups, but not lung cancer per se. American Cancer Society has that information, too.

  3. By all means, I wish you luck and sucess with your FIL. I will be praying for your family as I know from experience what a wild ride this can be. My cancer was not SC, but I do live in the Pgh. area. I went to Allegheny and had just wonderful experiences with my surgeon and pulmonologist.

Perhaps you could try there for a start. Best wishes and lots of prayers as you fight the fight.

  4. Shannon I agree with you - I think she is confusing the side effects of treatment, etc. with the effects of the cancer. How could she really do otherwise - she's only been here for a WEEK! :x

Perhaps if Grandpa doesn't have a computer you could print some of the posts so he can read some of the stories of hope and inspiration!

Hoping and praying for a safe trip home for your aunt and QUICKLY! I'm sure she means well, but no room for negatives right now! We welcome your sister, too.

  5. Peg,

So sorry to hear you received such rotten news - I'm sure better days are ahead. I'm afraid I don't have a whole lot of advice, kind of a novice here myself. I will keep you both in my prayers that there will be good news on the new scans.

I just try to keep in mind what I have read on these boards. The people here have so much to share, and their compassion knows no limits. Here you will find hope.

God bless you and your husband.

  6. Please know that althought times right now are at a low spot, there is one thing I can assure you of - since you have found this group - you are definitely NOT alone. There are so many people here with technical info, wonderful stories of hope and victory over this disease. More importantly, you will find support and comfort that you truely need right now. I will pray for you, your fiance and your daughter for comfort and healing and, I hope strength for the days ahead. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

  7. Junior,

Welcome and may God bless you and your family. You will never find a more supportive and informative bunch than right here. This message board is a constant line for help and comfort. I will keep you and yours in my prayers. :)
