  1. Thanks for the replies Tess & Don,

Talked with the doctor and he said to move it around as much as possible.

Pain was extreme two days ago, not quite so bad yesterday and then today a little better yet. Tonight it is worse again.

Just hope the radiation kicks in soon.

Thanks, My Best to You & Yours.

  2. Don, I knew either you or Margaret (& Hollywood) would be the first to answer me. Thanks.

Yes, taking Percocet for a couple weeks now and just started Morphine (every 8 hrs) yesterday.

It is just that we don't know if that leg should be exercised as much as possible or let rest, elevated or what. Tumor is in the right thigh bone and there is another in the "soft tissue" on the other leg.

I'm glad radiation helped Lucie, hope it starts to work in this case soon.

  3. With leg bone mets, would it be better to elevate the leg?

Would movement (as best as possible) be better than just sitting for hours? Seems the other leg "forgets" what to do when they aren't moved for long periods.

Saw the dr. just yesterday and he wrote a presciption for a wheel chair after we suggested it. Patient has been using a walker for two weeks now.

There is tremendous pain with movement, just had 6th radiation treatment on right leg yesterday. We are trying to deal with all this on our own and I just don't know what's the right thing to do.

So, just wondering what anyone else might have been told with similar problems. I'm going to try to get some information out of the nurse today.

    Thanks.

  4. Don, I'm sorry, for this new information you were given.

I'm sure some members more knowledgeable than me will be along with advice for you.

I was wondering all day how you two were doing on that trip.

Take care and keep us informed.

  5. Don, I'm sorry to hear about the way things are going for you right now.

Maybe she can take a sedative before the trip. Rent a van if you have to. The PET scan is very important.

If you have family or friends around, now is the time to call on them.

    Good Luck.

  6. Hi Don,

My situation is quite similar to yours - 15 radiation treatments to the chest on a 79 year old.

I guess the worst problem was fatigue and soreness where the radiation hit (still very tender in those areas) but no nausea or lack of appetite.

It really did help with the pain.

Hope that helps you a little.

  7. Kelly, I too add my condolences.

Sounds like you did everything the way he would have wanted it, so that's great.

I hope you find comfort in the happier memories.

    Best Regards,

    Vennie

  8. Hi, thought I would ask if anyone knows what a "bump" on the back of the head could mean? It's about the size of a quarter and sore.

Called the radiologist and he says to watch it for a few days and if it gets larger go in to see him.

This is on a person with Stage IV NSCLC who just completed three weeks of radiation.

    Thank You.

  9. Trish,

I am very sorry for the news you have recently received from the doctor. It is very confusing and frightening. (I am in a situation quite similar to yours & also trying to learn all that I can.)

There will be some very helpful and knowledgeable people who will come along to help you here.

Best of Luck to you and yours.

  10. Hi Marie,

Just wanted to say hello & let you know this is a wonderful group of helpful and supportive people. You can learn many things here that you might not otherwise find out.

I think you will have to post a little more information for others to answer some of your questions.

Right now, I am trying to learn all I can as I'm dealing with a 79 year old, stage IV person. I find that just having a place to turn is a great benefit to me.

I certainly wish you luck, come back again.

  11. Hi,

Just wanted to do a little updating - as I know we all watch each other's progress.

Yesterday was the 14th radiation treatment and the first day she went all day long with no pain medicine.

Also, one vicoprofen helped her throughout the night.

So, for anyone else going through the same, there is relief down the road.

The next question is whether or not to do chemo (age 79, NSCLC, good health otherwise, great attitude & spirit). I would appreciate any comments on that decision.

Thank you and hope everyone's day is better than expected.

    Ven
