desater
My name is wilma, I do not have cancer , But my life has been effected by cancer many times. My sister currently has breast cancer and I just lost an uncle to lung cancer. The reason for my post is I am in need of your support. I am petitioning the government to try to get sederal insurance programs medicare and medicaid to pay for wigs for cancer patients. So if you are over 18 I would like to ask you to sign the petition and pass it along to your friends. I am also writing doctors to try and get the support of the medical socity to agree that wigs are prosthesis and not cosmetic. Thank you for your support and help. Please remember you must be age 18 or older to sign the petiton. Thanks Wilma http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/427176932
Connie B
The American Cancer Society offers FREE WIGS. They have done this for over 10 years. As do many other Cancer organizations. Even some Hairdresser's offer free wigs to cancer patients . And this is all over the United States.
desater
I am so happy things are going so well for you. Keep up the good work!!!!! And I know treatments are work, I go with my sister for hers. My point of the petition is. I know there are groups and organizations that help with wigs, My sister just got hers because it was donated by a breast cancer survivour. But if the government would see it as a medically nesseity, Think of all the money and effort that could be put towards reasearch and helping to find a cure. Especially wigs that come from the cancer foundation. Maybe its just important to me, But I am going to keep trying. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Connie B
I'm sorry to disagree with you, because I think our Government has a lot more important things to deal with and work on (such as the homeless folks after the hurricanes hit) then offering wigs to cancer patients or anyone for that matter. BEING we have so many organizations that offer FREE wigs to patients in need to begin with. But that's just MY humble opinion. I think I would rather see a cure for cancer first. Good luck on your mission.
tnmynatt
I think what I'm hearing you say is that you think wigs should be considered medically necessary so that insurance companies will cover them. This would then allow those funds currently being spent by the non-profits to be used for other things such as cancer research, etc. Am I right? RandyW
The Cost is tax Deductible and if you check health Insurance may cover this cost also. ask for Cranial Prosthesis and have Onc write a prescription. It may be covered that way. Good Luck with this mission.
desater
If a wig is considered a prosthesis instead of a cosmetic item, It would then be covered by state and federal insurance companies. I dont know about private insurances and what they cover, But I do know that my sisters prescription was for a cranial prosthesis and we were told that medicare and medicaid will not pay for them. If The cancer socity and other organizations that donate the wigs to those who cannot afford them, Or insurance wont cover them.... Took all of that money and focused it on research for a cure Then think of the money that could be available for researchers. Everyone is entitled to their opinions of whats right and whats wrong and I would never say anything about anyone that expressed themselves. Im just asking that if any one agrees please pass the petition to everyone you know. If you dont agree Thats ok too. Have a wonderful Day and god bless.
