john
When a doctor suggests using a X-ray to monitor one's cancer show him this article. I would demand a CT scan http://www.cancer.gov/newscenter/mayo20
BarbaraL
I agree completely, John. About 2-1/2 years ago during a routine physical, my primary care physical ordered a chest x-ray, just because I was a lifelong smoker. Nothing showed up. Monday, at my second opinion consultation, the onc asked me about prior screenings, and I told him about the x-ray. "Yeah," he said, "that's typical. Nothing will generally show up in an x-ray until it's late stage." I'm making it a personal crusade to get all my currently- and formerly-smoking friends to get CT scans. The peace of mind alone is worth it. Barb
Don Wood
It may be true of chest x-rays but I don't agree about bone scans. Don
Guest
When Earl's thoracic surgeon said to come back mid-October with a chest xray - I said 'Oh no, please a CT scan'. He said I can tell as much from an xray and talking to the patient but I will write the order for a CT scan. Is he right, I don't know, but I didn't want to take a chance. Also, I scheduled the scan to include pelvis and abdomen. Better safe than sorry. Ginny D who can not figure out how to sign on from work as me. So I am a long time guest.
