georgesalley
I have heard some tales of blood clots in connection with ports. Has anyone had any experience with that? Cheers, Geo
Andrea
My mom had a port, but her blood clot seemed to be more related to chemo. It was found incidentally on her ct-scan and they put in a filter and she was fine.
Ry
Many oncologists put their patients with ports on a low level blood thinner-- ask your oncologist about it. Some chemos (like Tarceva) cause the blood to thin anyway.
tnmynatt
Blood clots are usually caused by the cancer. It thickens the blood. That was how my husband was diagnosed--he had blood clots in his lungs that had formed in his legs. He had to stay on blood thinners the whole time. Hope this helps. Take care. mary colleen
My husband has also had some clotting problems. He had never had a clot in the past, but developed on at the site of the IV used during his bronchoscopy. He was not on chemo yet. The oncologist told us that clots are common in lung cancer patients.
Connie B
Blood clots and lung cancer generally go hand and hand. It not out of the norm for that to happen.
