MADISON, Wis. – Feb. 19, 2009 – Continuing its effort to raise awareness of lung cancer among women, the National Lung Cancer Partnership today added a television public service announcement (PSA) to its national multi-media PSA campaign. The campaign, launched in 2008, aims to inform women about their risk for lung cancer and encourages them to learn more about this deadly disease.

More than 100,000 American women contract lung cancer each year. In fact, the disease kills more women than breast, ovarian and uterine cancer combined. Despite these statistics, lung cancer awareness among women remains low. In a survey conducted by National Lung Cancer Partnership, only 12 percent of women believed they knew the symptoms of lung cancer and fewer than 10 percent said they had talked to their doctors about their risk for the disease.

The PSA was designed by Eichenbaum/Associates of Milwaukee who donated their services. The voiceover was provided by two-time Emmy award-winning actress Kathryn Joosten, a spokesperson for the Partnership and a lung cancer survivor.

"The reality is, lung cancer takes the lives of more women each year than breast, ovarian and uterine cancers combined, but no one is talking about it," said Regina Vidaver, Ph.D., executive director of National Lung Cancer Partnership. "Women need to talk to their doctors about this deadly disease and we hope this PSA will provoke them to do just that."

National Lung Cancer Partnership is a 501©(3) non-profit organization dedicated to decreasing deaths due to lung cancer, and helping patients live longer and better, through research, awareness and advocacy.
