Connie is going through more tests and her cardiologist Doctor visit today in preparation for her surgery on Thursday. I pray all goes well and that Connie feels peace and rest to get ready for the "battle" ahead.
Update
Just called United to get Connie's room number and I also got Connie Berchem. They had just put her to bed , she passed the angiogram with "flying colors" She wanted you to know. She also should have a good view she is on the 8th floor. This afternoon she will also have a Carotid ultrasound just to be checking all out before her surgery tomorrow.
The address of United Hospital is 333 N Smith Ave, St Paul, Mn 55102
I also thought of starting a new "ribbon" that we could send our best wishes to her on. I could print it off tomorrow and bring it to her at the hospital , when she woke up she would have it . I think I will try under general. See you there. Donna

So sorry to hear that your brother has lung cancer. We have at least 3 people on the board that are very young. Jodi was diagnosed with Mesothelioma at 26, Jay is in his teens and is post op and had chemo, David P was diagnosed at 20 and he is 46 yrs old now! He is a hero! He has one lung and is entered in a bike race! ( hence the picture of him biking on his posts. ) Please share more details and we will try to help. Do you live here in the USA? Waiting to hear from you. Donna

Welcome Andrea. I hope we will be of help to you. Would you want to share what type of lung cancer your Mom has? What kind of treatments she has had or what is planned? The cough syrups over the counter in the drug store do not have codiene. Are you trying to help her cough something up in order to cut the amount of coughing or do you think you want to stop the coughing? Is her throat dry? Is she well hydrated? Any fever? Is the Dr. aware that she is coughing a lot? I sure have lots of questions , don't I. O yes what color if she is coughing something up? If it is clear should be oK but if otherwise it needs to come up and perhaps she needs her Dr to know what is coming up. O well don't want to scare you away so we will wait for your reply. Again- Welcome Donna

I agree, great news. Thanks so much for sharing it and your healing insights.

Please know I love that good news. I am so happy for bothe of you.

That's wonderful. Love a good reason to celebrate! Hope they find a cure for the skin problem too.

Cathy , I am so sorry. I pray for you , your family and your precious Dad.

Swimming is wonderful exercise. First question - how clean is the pool. Second question - what is your dad's white blood cell count ( used to fight infections.) Public pools used by little ones frequently have "pool alerts" because of accidents by little ones. They say public hot tubs can give lung infections to healthy people.

We read this article a while back on foods that fight cancer.

Today is August 16, David said the 12 hr qualifying race was today. You know the bicycle race. Any body up their in Canada hear how he is doing? It is suppose to be at the Hemlock Valley Ski Resort I believe. -As soon as anyone finds out let us know.

I know we want quick quick quick results. It has only been a matter of weeks and the Duke has really been through the mill this year. I pray that you see steady improvements. Believe me it took a long time for me to feel better.

Shelly, I am so sorry.

Welcome aboard. I speak with a Boston accent, so every one tells me. Perhaps because that is where I learned to speak. Hope you find the support you need here with us. Again, welcome Donna

Just heard from Connie. The TEE went well . The Cardiologist wanted her to check in and have an angiogram then heart surgery to remove the myxoma from her heart muscle. He called her pulmonologist but he wanted it coordinated to have the nodule in her right ( remaining) lung removed at the same time. Connie is at home waiting a phone call to find out what next. Her heart is literally in pain and some difficulty breathing, she intends to let the Dr.s know. Thrown into all this she was told be the cardiologist that he wanted surgery fast for he feared she may have a stroke ( throw a clot off that irregular wall of the heart I imagine ) . Please pray for wisdom , peace, and fast recovery. Connie has always been such a good friend. Donna
UPDATE.........................................................................
Connie sees cardiologist for physical Tues 8/19 and went to group!!
Connie will have the angiogram on Wed 8/20
Connie went to surgery 8/21, they were not able to remove either tumor today. She is on a vent and hopefully it will be removed tomorrow. She was alert after surgery. See next ribbon Friday Connie off Vent

We miss you! Hope this clears up quickly. You are in our thoughts

I am not so early as you. My plan from the beginning was to have chemo and radiation. Now I feel perhaps I was fortunate. The more I learn the more I feel that way. They say that 40 % of Stage I will have cancer return . To me that is too high especially where most of us have no early signs or warnings. The Oncs recently decided those stats were not comfortable to recommend no further treatment. Recently they have recommended chemo for Stage I. There are some doctors working on better diagnostic tools to detect micrometastasis but that work is still going on. So in the mean time------- perhaps it is better to be safe

I hope Connie B got a good nights rest finally! She hasn't been able to sleep well Today she goes to United Hospital for her TEE and we will see what is next. I continue to pray for her and her family for peace and strength.

Way to go girl!! :D Great work! Maybe you could send him your picture holding that baby and he would put a face to it! I see a lot of people testifying to congress about their concerns . On the news recently here a teenager who has dealt with juvinile diabetes since the age of three, wanting congress to vote for their special interest. Perhaps one day one of us with go to DC and speak on behalf of lung cancer victims. O , I continue to dream . Donna

I had VP 16 and Cisplatin at the same time with radiation. When I was able to have surgery they told me all that was left was scar tissue. Your husband is still young . I pray that powerful stuff will cause his to turn to scar tissue also. It must be very frightening for a ten yr old to watch their Dad so sick. I send a big siber hug (((((((((((((((((()))))))))))))))))Donna

Jodi that is great news! You are our miracle! Hope they can help that throat. I can guess you won't be at our meeting next tues. Keep us posted. We love good news. Donna

Please send up extra prayers for our friend Connie, for the doctors interpreting her tests, that the trans esophageal echo of her heart goes smoothly, that if she needs more treatment the best will be prescribed . Connie is a one lunger and to be told she has a tumor in her remaining lung and her heart, has to be so upseting, please Lord give her peace and strength .

Well David at least now you"ll know first hand what we are talking about. I bet the technician will be amazed that you are such a long term survivor and this is for first CT. Let us know the good news.

Someone asked about new tests re using saliva for screening for lung cancer . I did a google search and evidently for a couple of years research has been going on. One study looking at proteins and another at mitochondria.

Wow that was more than an hour long. Thanks for telling us about it. One comment at the end I never knew was ----"in victims over 65 yrs old only 1/4th recieve any treatment". That was just after they said that 1/2 of all lung cancer patients are over 68. No wonder why the stats are depressing!!!!!!! 1/2 would be about 90,000 people and 1/4 of them would be only 22,500 getting treatment and 67,000 getting no treatment! Why are so many getting no treatment!! I really wish we could hear more from that Lynne Robertson from the UK. She said we need to band together to change the public perception as they did for Breast Cancer and Aides. Talked about the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and the Global Lung Cancer Coalition. She felt that we need to get the media to print our stories. Connie has been working on us to do that here in Minnesota for the past 3 yrs. Many in our small group have gotten printed up in our local papers and some in the twin cities papers. It is a start, lots more work needed. Perhaps this should be under advocacy. Would n't it be something if all 500 + of us got into our local paper for Lung Cancer awareness month -November!!! Just a thought
