  1. Congratulations...the three best letters in the alphabet! How very disciplined you must be not to worry about the scan until after your return. I envy your that!

    Ellen

Ellen I am not disciplined at all Gary is the strong one and with the visit to Ca between the scan and ONC visit and Gary saying there is nothing more we can do but have a good time I almost made it though it crossed my mind a few times.

  2. Wonderful! It feels so good, doesn't it? I just got NED results on Monday and feel great.

Is that a black lab in your picture? I have one too--named Ed!

Meredith that is Morgan my daughters dog. She is a wonderful dog.We have three yappers as my grandson calles them. A Papillion, doxie and a mini schnauzer. We love them to death but in my dreams there is a lab waiting for me. Did you read Marley and Me.I laughed all through out the book. If you love labs read the book it is a true story.

Congrats on your NED results how great it feels after we are told.

  3. First I must say I am sorry about not posting on this board.I even forgot my pass word and had to get a new one. When this board went down a few months back I had a hard time getting back on only to find out when I copied and pasted the new address I added the period.Back to the Great news Gary had his scan two weeks ago then we went back to Ca half work related and the other half seeing our grand kids again. We didn't worry about the scan results until we came back Sat and Tuesday our wonderful ONC said those three letters.NED.I am bursting. We have been so blessed.

    Love Lorrie

  4. We just got back from the heart Doc and all the test results are great. We all ready knew after the cardac cath that his arteries were good but we were waiting for the echo results and his heart looks great.

tina we told the doc that Gary was taking an extra water pill and the doc said stop but take the higher dose cardizem cd since it is helping the many PVC's Gary has been having. The Doctor said on the holtor monitor during 3000 events gary was having 2500 pvc's during each event. This will not hurt him though???????His hdl ldl and trig was 187 but his hdl was 40. I questioned the doctor since I had just been to my Doc that am and even though my total was 247 (with meds)my hdl was 85. I have taken meds since I was 40 and that is a great hdl number but my total level is genetic and not what I eat.Without meds I was 335 total. So Gary is on as of now a low fat diet per me.I never understood how at his 235 + lb and my 115 lbs could give such reverse numbers but most doctors just go by the total numbers. Gee I am getting off track anyway his doc said his 40 is just on the normal side.He also said for gary to stop caffine which will be no problem for him (me it would be) but when I told the doctor what about all of his asthma med since they are all uppers he said I was right but for gary to stop his ONE cup of coffee a day.So we still do not know why the tightness in his chest or pvs's and can just asume it is from the surgery and Asthma and maybe Chemo.Like you also said Stress most likely plays a part also. Since being diag with LC he has worked twice as hard at work just to prove he is OK. The CEO told him to take it easy but it is not the way gary is. MEN>

    Thankyou Tina

  5. Thankyou all but I felt after thinking about what I posted I was throwing this board into a diiferent illness. When I first posted about Gery's chest tightness I was told to get a heart doctor and I did convince Gary to follow your advice and I wanted to thank you all but the more I thought about the topic I did believe I made a mistake and that is why I reposted today.

I do so need this board since Gary will have scans every three months and what I would normally not think much about after LC it is hard to ignore even a hang nail. I am so afraid of the future and try not to worry but Gary is my life and has been for 42 + years. Gary on the other hand forgot he even had another scan coming up in june and is going on with life as everything is normal. I know it is not and we will have many more hurdles to overcome.I saw on FNC our congressmen who had LC and he went to Moffit just like us. He said he is fine now but did say LC came back in two years and they (moffitt) took his lung out and he has been cancer free for 4 years. I did tell Gary that but I also told him thanks to the scans this man is fine but I don't want Gary to go through this again. Am I making any sense? I am so sorry I am going on again but I as I have been told am a born worrier. Thank you all for listening.

  6. Hi Lorrie,

From what you wrote..it sounds like, *so far* they don't think it's his heart, correct? Did the doc say anything about what he/she thinks it is?

I am just throwing this *out there* does he have any history of reflux...like problems with stomach acid and such?

Perhaps it's a side effect from a medication?

A few suggestions on ways to describe for the doc exactly what he is feeling.

What is he doing when it happens

Does anything else hurt when he experiences the tightness

Can he describe the tightness any other way (sharp, gnawing, aching, burning, crushing, dull)

    How long does it last

Does changing positions help the tightness >>>>>>>>

    Libby its me again.

Gary just called and I asked him what his tightness felt like and read him your list.He said the only way he can describe it is that it feels like a weight on his chest and every time he takes a deep breath it restricts it. He does not have any reflux problems only when he was on Chemo. He had a chest X ray before the Cardo cath and his lungs looked great. The tightness could last days but when we went to Ca it seemed to be better even though he was working he still was relaxing with the grand kids so it might be work even though he does work two days a week at home and the other three days at the office but he always has his cell phone on.He has also developed PVC's (many)but his heart doc is not concerned. The doctor doubled his dose of blood preasure meds and this has seemed to decrease the PVC's but he had to be put on extra water pills to conteract the double dose of blood preasure meds. Gary has to take a calicum blocker and not a beta blocker because of his asthma and calicum blockers do tend to cause fluid build up.

  7. Hi Libby

I am going to go over your post with Gary. The Tightness in his chest started between Chemo treatments and then all the time after Chemo was stopped.Gary also has and always had Asthma. Before LC when he said his chest felt tight he would always be coming down with a very bad cold.I think that because he is not on chemo which had steriods in it that could be the problem.Though he does take a lot of meds for asthma and some of the inhalers have steriods in them.I will show him your post when he gets home from work and get the answers. We have seen so many doctors lately my mind is mush.

  8. Terri

I just read your post and I am so sorry about the turn of events. You have lifted me up and answered so many of my questions that I think off you as a teacher. I do so hope your pain can be controlled.

    with love

  9. I followed your advise about my post of Gary's tightness in chest and we saw a heart doc.Gary had a chemical stress test which showed he might have had a slight heart attack. He went for a cardiac cath and that came out fine. We got the OK to go to Ca and when we came back Gary had an ECG we will get the results this tues.I am glad that we hopefully will have some piece of mind about his heart but the tightness in his chest is the same. His pulmonary doc had him take breathing tests and is lung compacity is at 98%.Any other suggestions.

  10. Don and Lucie I just read your post and I am so sorry to hear the news.I do so hope that Lucie gets to go to the graduation of your grandson that is such a mile stone in a young persons life and grandchildren are so important. That is where we have been for the last week seeing our precious grandkids. Love and Prayers for Lucie and you Don.

  11. I want to that you all for responding to my post a few weeks back about Gary having tightness in his chest. He also was having PVC's. Everyone told me to have him have it checked out. We told our primary about it and he without even listening to his chest or heart said it was nothing and upped his calcium blocker pills. They were of no help and since he cannot take beta blockers because he has asthma his PVC's were the same. Gary went back and insisted on a refferal to a heart doc and got it.We saw the doc last week and after getting Gary's history and he also said Chemo could have affected his heart put him on a much stronger dose of the calcium blocker and this Tues will put him on a monitar for 24 hrs and on thursday will give him a chemical stress test. We will wait for the ecg untill the 5th because we will be going to Ca to see the kids. We had planned to go this week but canceled so some of the tests could be done.Again thank you all for urging me to talk Gary into having a heart Doc look at him. I say Heart doc because I am to lazy lookin up cardo......

  12. Maybe I fit the bill. I was a natural blonde untill I was 18. Gary and I got married and I colored my hair RED a month after... I hated it and had to re do my hair back to blonde and have been doing that ever since. So who knows what color I am 42 years later.

The person below me is going to go on a fantastic vacation soon.

  13. Hi Roger. What helped me was the Nicatrol inhaler. It is like smoking but without the smoke. It is a bit pricey but so are cig and you need a script for them.It did work for me it is the hand mouth thing same as smoking.

    Good luck

    Lorrie
