  1. Hi Jacob, I am shocked how similar your moms experience is to what my dad went through. It is the worst experience to watch your loved one suffer and none of the professionals seem to be doing their jobs. I was always calling for all appointments (ct, pet, biopsy) to put that seed in their heads to get him in. All you can do is your best and stay strong for her. I hope she gets some treatment started soon any hopefully that will help ease some of her pain. Wish you both all the best.
  2. hello everyone! my dad had four radiation treatments and landed him in hospital. He is on antibiotics for a lung infection and steroids for inflammation of the lungs. The doctor does not recommend doing anymore radiation but instead once the infection is dealt with he will hopefully start immunotherapy. Things are uncertain at this point as he is extremely ill but fingers crossed he gets through this. has anyone else experienced anything similar?? please let me know 😞
  3. Hi Lily!! He has been complaining of food tasting horrible and eating less and less things since his back pain started about 4 months ago when he started popping tylenol like candy for the pain. He was finally put on actual pain killers and the eating has become less and less… he finally would only “eat” liquids (boost or smoothies and soups) but still says its hard to get down. He stopped eating completely for 2 days after starting radiation and then his blood pressure was so low the internal medicine dr told him he needs to eat or he will be hospitalized. i hate to say it but by the way he is looking i an losing faith that he will even make it to chemo/ immunotherapy treatment. 😔
  4. hello everyone hope all is well!! My dad has been diagnosed with Invasive squamous cell carcinoma moderately differentiated. (whatever that means!?!?) he has started radiation and just had his second treatment today. He is sleeping alot and hardly eating at this point. He has lost 60lbs since September and getting him to eat has become more and more difficult as he says all good tastes terrible. He was diagnosed when he had a cough that wouldn't go away and eventually his back was hurting and nothing helped. Our GP said he had spine mets and thats why he has so much pain but when the radiology oncologist told him what his treatment was gonna be he said the pain seems to be due to the tumour pressing!?!? so things have still been unclear as to whats happening and if it has spread. they are currently treating his lung tumour with the radiation and not the spine 🤷🏼‍♀️ The lung specialist said they are looking at starting chemo and immunotherapy soon as well. hope for a more positive 2023!
  5. hello everyone, Hope everyone is well and had a relaxing holiday season. My dad had his first Radiologist appointment and was told his type of lunf cancer is: Invasive squamous cell carcinoma moderately differentiated. what does this mean????
  6. Hi Judy! Yes, he had his biopsy on Friday so that is mostly what we have been waiting for. our GP said after biopsy is when the oncologist will come in and they will make a treatment plan. Its just so hard to watch him seemingly decline in front of my eyes and i feel so helpless at times. but i have been advocating and calling to get his scans and biopsy etc.. pushed to an earlier date then they originally had been. he doesnt want to eat much and i dont know if this is just a mixture of pain meds, anxiety/ depression and the cancer its self as i read lung cancer can cause decreased appetite. Just so heartbreaking but we are getting there…. if you have any advice or suggestions on how to get hid calories up and his strength up that would be greatly appreciated. i will be calling tomorrow to see if we can get a nutritionist through the BC Cancer agency as well
  7. Hi LilyMir, thank you for all the mental health and other recommendations i will be looking into those!! as for an oncologist he has an appointment on Jan 3 with a radiation oncologist but as for a medical oncologist we dont have one yet as we are waiting for biopsy results?? We have a lung specialist already who preformed the biopsy and he had an appointment on Jan 9. I just feel like everything is taking forever and im scared he wont make it to treatment. but thats probably just my anxiety.
  8. hello everyone, My dad had his biopsy finally on Friday Dec 23. He has an appointment with a radiation oncologist Jan 3 then a follow up appointment with lung specialist on Jan 9. It feels like we are just waiting and waiting and nothing is happening in regards to any treatment. my heart is breaking more and more for my dad as he seems to be declining as we are sitting around waiting for something to happen. He is on pain meds for his pain in his back and has now lost his voice. He has started to eat less and less and is now only eating a liquid diet (boost, smoothies and soups) does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do?? does he need to be in hospital? i just dont know anymore. i know this isnt about me but my mental health is declining with him and i just dont know what to do. the doctors dont seems to think he is ill enough to be rushed into treatment or hospitalized… and the worst part is we dont even have an oncologist we can call to update with new symptoms or ask about any concerns. im just so heartbroken and frustrated at this point. hope everyone had a good Christmas and happy new year!
  9. thank you everyone for the advice! its always helpful. ❤️ hope all is well
  10. please someone stop me from googling anything and everything about lung cancer.. its taken over my life and it usually doesnt make me feel better😞 just so worried about my dear Dad
  11. hello everyone! Hope you are all doing well. I wanted to ask everyones opinions on the following… (i know the testing and diagnostics takes time) my dad has seemed to go from working everyday even with his back pain to almost unable to get off the couch. ever since the ct results came back and our doc said he has cancer he has been declining (doesnt eat much is sitting down all day and sleeping) he has lost a lot of weight and wont eat most things cuz he says everything tastes like what a dog leaves on the grass.. 🧐 he was taking Tylenol for back pain originally everyday multiple times a day for the pain and thats when the taste thing happened. he is no on hydromorphine ( sorry if i spelt it wrong) and tylenol and seems to have less pain. it scares me to see him look so un well and my mom asked our doc if he should go to the hospital she said no and that he isnt sick enough. could this be a mixture of anxiety depression and just the pain meds making him not want to eat of be motivated to do normal things? if any of the doctors where concerned regarding his scans would they send him to the hospital and maybe even start him of the standard chemo to try and slow it? the pet scan came back and the doc said it was and aggressive type.. but we still havent got the biopsy results yet please let me know if anyone else has experienced this
  12. thank you Isla and Justin for such kind encouraging words ❤️ i hope you are doing well!
  13. Hello everyone hope you are all well! my dads PET scan results came back and showed what we already knew and no surprises. but the doc said he thinks its aggressive due to my dad having a chest x ray in 2019 that was clear (on an unrelated matter) is it possible to tell if it is aggressive due to an imaging test? or was that just a suspicion? kinda freaked me out more but i know we wont know for sure without a biopsy.
  14. hello i am so sorry our fathers have to go through this. My Dad is one of my best friends and this has been a complete nightmare. I keep thinking I will wake up and all will be normal. Im a complete mess my Dad is our family rock and the best guy i know. not sure how i will go on without him. this is the most devastating thing i have ever experienced. im always trying to hope for a miracle and that he will be like the survivors on this forum. the test and scans feel like you wait forever just to get them and its torture. what test was the one that confirmed the cancer on your dads spine? all the best to you and your dad.
  15. hello everyone, My dad was just newly diagnosed with lung cancer through x ray and ct. we get the pet scan results tomorrow and im so scared what they are going to say. We are waiting on a biopsy appointment which will hopefully happen soon. its only been a month but it feels like a life time already and i am not handling it well emotionally. He has not gotten a stage yet but they are saying it has spread to his spine because of his pain he is having and assuming they can see on the ct results so that would be stage 4. is it normal to be this terrified and just totally broken this early? I cant imagine my life without him and it scares me so much. i feel so alone and helpless hope to hear from someone who feels the same
  16. hello Tom thank you for your reply. I am hoping for the best. I have been a mess its has been so hard waiting for all the results and tests. Im so scared it will progress further before he can have any treatment that is my biggest fear. I am also worried about the spine mets as I dont want the bones to be eaten away.. but id hope they would be able to see that in the scans? I have told my mom to ask about all the biomarker tests etc so hopefully we will get the show on the road soon trying to stay positive and doing my best to stay strong
  17. hello my dad was just recently diagnosed with lung cancer (still in the testing phase) he has had bad back pain in upper left next to his should blade. Our family doctor said it has spread to spine but the lung specialist said it “may” have spread to spine because of pain he is having. so I'm still confused about that.. no clear answer about that. we get the PET scan results on Monday so hopefully that will clear that up for us. If there was spine mets would they be able to see this through CT? and if it is could they tell how severe it is in his spine as i worry about it eating away at the bone and having bad complications. also i am praying there is hope for recovery with spine mets has anyone had good treatment results with this?
  18. Very worried and distraught loving daughter here. I am losing my mind over my Dads new diagnosis of lung cancer and wanted some advice from people who have lived this as-well. It started with a cough that wouldnt go away and then he thought he had hurt a muscle or slipped a disc in his back beside left shoulder blade. pain was pretty much constant and he couldn't sleep well because of discomfort. couple months later he has a chest x ray that showed something abnormal to ct thats doc confirmed lung cancer. they say it has spread to his spine but we are now waiting on the pet scan results. still have not had a biopsy done but we hope it will happen soon. I have been seeing lots of positive stories regarding people who have lived with stage 4 lung cancer and I am trying to stay positive and hope for the best. Is there hope?
