Millie,
Are you certain that you were given the correct information on his medical test results? The first thing that came to my mind when you mentioned the weight gain and other symptoms was onset of Diabetes. And frankly, after everything I've experienced when things come back "normal" and I'm certainly NOT normal I question the validity of the tests and the results. Double check on your Dad's health, okay? I know this has to be hard on you coming so soon after losing your Mom, but don't let the health issues slide until YOU are convinced that your Dad is physically okay.

Hope you are better soon.

Find a new Cardiologist. He is SO wrong about the Lung Cancer that I would be quesioning his advice that a leaky valve causing symptoms would last you until your 70s. But that's just me, and I question everything.
You know...I would also like to point out that even if recurrences or mets appear before the magic 5 year date, and if they are successfully treated with surgery, radiation, or chemo, we Lung Cancer patients can survive beyond the 5 year mark.......
Says the Lady who celebrated her 6th Anniversary as a Lung Cancer Survivor back in June of 2005. Do you know I've lost count of the recurrences and mets? I've lost count of the times the Physician has had to say "The Cancer has returned.", or "It is positive for Malignancy.".
Sometimes there is no cure...and we have to live with it like anyone else with a serious, chronic medical condition.

Welcome, Linda. I hope you will do as Donna and Connie suggested. Have a second opinion, preferably at a large comprehensive cancer center where they are more likely to have seen other cases of Signet Cell. What state are you in? We may be able to put together a list of Large NCI designated Cancer Centers in your State, or nearest to where you live if out of state if you will let us know where you reside. Wishing you well.

My Oncologist is really sick with the crud I had last month and this month. So all of her patients have been cancelled and rescheduled for next week. Say a prayer, please, that she is feeling better soon, for her own sake as well as her patients. I was told her temp is over 103.
I saw my Primary Care Doc today, and he told me that when there is only one area involved in the chest wall-pleura (and he doesn't think there are two tumors. He thinks one is a broken rib...and I think I agree with him) I may be able to have it surgically removed and the chest wall reconstructed along with the broken ribs removed. I sure hope so. The one tumor is just huge...and I'm hoping we can make it go away. I guess you could say I am cautiously optimistic.

Joanie,
You might want to check into a long line bra. No band proper to cut into the incision line. Just a thought for those of us who can't really go completely braless.

Happy Anniversary, Heather!!! I'm counting on you counting way beyond 3 years.

Glad this found the way to the top! I missed it when you first posted. Happy Anniversary and I hope you ARE still hanging in there.

Only if you really want to live, and are capable of appreciating the gift of life even when things are difficult. For me it is a no brainer...I want to live. So, YES! It is worth it.

Lori,
You might consider contacting your state's Board of Quality Assurance which oversees and handles complaints against both Medical Facilities, Practioners, and the Insurance Industries. And if all else fails embarrass the heck out of them by going public. Contact the press.

Beth,
Unless you are bona fide medical professional with experience in Nursing end phase cancer patients, then you absolutely MUST stop thinking along these lines. You did exactly what you should have done under the circumstances: turned over the mask to the Nurse.
I know this is easier said than done. I think most of us question our actions when we are the ones present through a medical crisis. But Beth, you really didn't do anything wrong. You did not contribute to your Father's sufferring.

Eppie,
I am sorry to hear this. Is your Father being given Neulasta Injections to boost his white blood cell production? Mine tanked at .8 for several weeks, had a single injection of Neulasta and it went up to 22. (rose so high because I had already developed pneumonia and a severe sinus infection while the white count was so low. Came down as the infection cleared.) If he isn't getting these injections then it is time to ask why not. I was not offered the injections. I had to ask about them when I went through chemo two years ago. I get them now while going through chemo.

Thinking of you, Addie.

Trina,
I am very sorry you have need to find us, but hope you are able to find much support and good counsel here. I'm curious. Did the Neuro Oncologist say why your husband isn't a candidate for Intrathecal Chemotherapy?

I am very happy to hear this.

Basically and as near as I can tell from the report there are two masses in the left Pleura, one is 1.5cm and the other is quite large, but the reader gave no measurement (The pics show the difference between a pingpong ball and a softball). But no others in any location. So, in my mind this is potentially very good news if I can talk some Doc into thinking like me. Got to find a way to debulk the big one, because it is pushing into my only lung and interfering with my ability to breathe, and it is pushing into my ribs, breaking them, which hurts....a lot. Which also interferes with my ability to breathe.
So that is it. Thank you for the prayers, and I humbly ask that you keep them coming.

My condolences, Beth. Sounds like you were blessed with a wonderful Father.
