  1. Has anyone had any success with Herceptin? I talked to a different doctor yesterday, and because my cancer progressed so rapidly while I was pregnant, he thought Herceptin might be worth trying some day. Wondered if anyone had been down that road?

    Thanks,

    Raney

  2. Can anyone describe what it's like to get and have a port for me? I'm wondering if I'm out of commmission for the whole day I get it. Also, how secure is it inside of you? Will hugging and playing with my kids bother it? Thanks for any information.

  3. I had my chest x-ray today before I do my second round of chemo tomorrow - Showed my primary tumor shrunk from >4cm to 2cm and less dense. I'm so happy the chemo is working!

  4. I was wondering if anyone got a rash while doing the taxol/carboplatin/avastin chemo? I broke out this morning from neck to toe with red itchy bumps. It is pretty severe. I called in and spoke to my doc on-call who didn't seem to have any idea what it could be. He recommended Benadryl and Hydrocortisone cream, which helps a bit, but not a lot because the rash is so extensive. Any ideas?

    Merry Christmas,

  5. Had my scans and appt. today. Tumor in lung has not grown or shrunk, but changed a bit. Doctor didn't like this, so we're moving on from Tarceva to the Carbo/Taxol/Avastin combo. Hopefully starting this week and looking for great success.

  6. Sharon/Alisa,

How did you find the herbologist and complementary medicine doctor? I'm looking for someone reputable in the Phoenix area (I know both of you are a long way from me), and was just wondering if you had any suggestions on how to go about it. I've heard good things about a Homeopath in Irvine, CA and am thinking of going to see him, but also looking for someone a little more local.

    Thanks,

    Raney

  7. Thanks Maryanne. I should have said that I have a chest x-ray and abdominal CT scheduled on Tuesday. Hopefully I'll be getting peace of mind. I actually had my first rib muscle pain episode the week before diagnosis, so prior to almost all my scans, including the PET, so hopefully that's good and not a new thing going on.

  8. Has anyone else had an episode where the muscles in your back at the bottom of your rib cage feel cramped and painful with each breath? I can still take deep breaths, but it causes pain. It lasts about 1 hour then goes completely away. It's only happened 4 times over the last two months. My doctor didn't seem to know what might be going on at my last appt, and it's happened two more times since then.

    Thanks,

    Raney

  9. I haven't had a cough up to this point, or really any respiratory symptoms, but this week I've developed a bit of a cough that sounds "junky." It's really not too bad. If I laugh you can also hear it. The cough doesn't wake me up, and I probably only cough less than 5 times a day. It doesn't produce phlegm. I also have sneezing, a red throat and intermittent stuffy/runny nose. Does anyone have any opinion on if it's LC related or maybe hopefully just a cold or sinuses? If you do think it's LC related, does that mean the cancer is progressing? I have an appt. Tues, just stressing out currently.

    Thanks,

    Raney

  10. Try to stay distracted and I'll be praying you get good results. I hate that I can't even have a backache or sore shoulder for an hour without worrying that it's cancer.

I'm with Ernie though, about getting results quickly. At Mayo Scottsdale, I get my scans and my onc. appt. on the same day with the results. I'm so glad I don't have to wait, or I'd be crazy(er). Maybe you could ask about something like Ernie suggested next time.

  11. Tiff's Mom,

I'm so sorry to hear that your daughter lost her battle. I am also on the younger side diagnosed with this disease. I was 6 months pregnant with my second son when I began having back pain I attributed to being pregnant. 6 weeks after my baby's birth I was diagnosed. I admire your commitment to your daughter's dream. I also want to help other young adults with this disease, and hope to do that in the coming years. She was absolutely right about the world being turned upside down when you're just starting out. I'm sure it's turned upside down whenever anyone is diagnosed, but I feel strange in my group of peers because everyone else is so healthy and carefree at this age. Again, I'm so sorry that you lost your beautiful daughter.

  12. I'm wondering if anyone has a quick fact sheet with such things as number of diagnoses per year, amount of research $ allocated for lung cancer vs other cancers, and that type of thing. I'm finding that because of my age, never-smoking status, and otherwise health, I have a lot of opportunity to talk about lung cancer. I would like to have the facts so I can speak more compellingly about the need to increase funding for this disease. I'm being a bit lazy and thought maybe someone would already have something so I wouldn't have to do the research myself!

  13. Hi Aaron,

I've got a diagnosis similar to yours and am close to your age. I'm sorry to meet like this, but hoping we can both be survivors here. My oncologist's plan is a little different than yours, so I haven't experienced chemo at this point. I'm sorry you're going through this, but happy to see it seems to be working. Keep me posted on how the treatments are going.

  14. Can someone educate me about the BAC type of NSCLC? I know I have adenocarcinoma. Is BAC a further subtype of this or something completely different. These probably would have been good questions for my oncologist, but I didn't think of them until now. I appreciate any information.

    Thanks,

    Raney
