Good to have another post from you Bill. Bless you Dawn

I have been looking into this for my Dad - but have not managed to find any trials that are not randomised. If you find anything can you let me know as this vaccine looks so very promising.
Thanks and best wishes

Hi
Now that things have been made clearer I appreciate that this is a very sensitive issue.

Hi everyone
My dad had is first dose of chemo last tues (Gem/carbo regimen) - he was fine for 3 days, although he had debilitating hiccups. At day 4 he was sick, very weak and couldnt get out of bed, same for yesterday and today - we called the Doc yesterday and he said it could be a chest infection. Took Dad into hosp tonight as he is so weak and light-headed - his legs keep buckling under him. He is due for more chemo tomorrow but I doubt they will give it giving his condition. I am so scared that they will say thats it, we cant help any more !!.

Thanks so much to all of you for your responses -- my Dad is not bad at all 3 days after his first treatment however he is having terrible hiccups !!! They are keeping him awake all night but I think his nurse or Doc has given some pills to relieve them now !
I wasnt aware that hiccups were a side-effect of chemo ---has anyone ever experienced this before ?
Bless you all

Can anyone tell me if the side-effects of chemo get worse the more treatments you have (like a build up in the system)? Or does your body rid itself of the toxins before the next dose ? Can your system get used to the chemo ? Sorry to ask so many questions !!!
Thanks for help and support

Hi Sonia - I am also from Uk and stumbled across this site a while ago. I have learned more here than from the Docs looking after my Dad (has NSCLC Squamous call stage 3b/4) - everyone here is so caring and helpful and they are all truly amazing people.
God Bless your family

This helps so much - thank you all.
His treatment pattern is - gem/carbo day 1, then day 8 just Gemcitabine and then two weeks rest before the cycle starts again.
I have just spoken to him today and he says he feels fine - he was given steroids and anti-nausea pills so they are probably going to help.
He is so emotional at the minute and when we went to the hospital yesterday for the first session he was extremely tearful and looked very frightened (fear of the unknown I think). This breaks my heart as my Dad was always a big strong man and me and my sister try to be so strong for him now but it is so hard sometimes.
This site has given me so much help and comfort and although I dont post very often (my knowledge of this terrible disease is very limited compared to you all !), I read all new posting everyday.
Every person on this site has an incredible story to tell - you are all amazing people and God bless you all.
Many thanks

My Dad has NSCLC squamous cell - inoperable, and has started chemo today - gem/carbo regime, can anyone tell me when you start to feel ill after the start of the treatment -- my Dad is keen to know what to expect but I have no answers. He always says forewarned is forearmed !!
Thanks

I am a big believer in pomegranate juice and here in UK it is being hailed as a superfood (blueberries too).
It certainly will help to boost the immune system and tastes gorgeous too !!
Lets hope and pray that it helps in the battle against cancer.

What an amazing and truly wonderful person you are - your family must be very proud of you. Keep on fighting and God bless. My Dad is a sufferer of this atrocious disease and I hope he can show the same courage and spirit that you do.
Best wishes to you and your family

My Dad's tumour makes him very short of breath too, I think it is the location of the tumour which makes his worse. It is quite scary coz you want to be able to help but cant.

You are in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time - you were close to your Dad the way I am to mine - my Dad has lung cancer and this disease is a terrible one for sure.
God bless you

Hi Ernie (truly amazing man !)
Dad's Doctors always ignore the 'Tarceva' issue - it just doesnt figure yet in UK.
I am also concerned that the chemo doesnt seem very aggressive - I want to fight fire with fire Ernie !! - but I suppose they know best what suits each individual.
I am not giving up on the Tarceva issue tho and I will raise it again at the next meeting with his Onc. Sometimes I feel as though I ask them to many questions and that I should just sit in the corner with my mouth shut !!

Hi everyone - as I have mentioned in other posts my Dad has just been diagnosed with Squamous cell lung cancer T2N2Mx - he has just had his first visit to the Oncologist here in UK and they are starting him on Gemcitabine/Carbo chemo 21 day cycles 4 doses. The tumour is 4 and half centimetres so they will only do radiotherapy if the chemo shrinks it. (Liver and bones clear)
I have been researching and reading some of the posts on this fantastic site about the benefits of Tarceva and wondered if it would help my Dad.
In UK Tarceva is not available through our National Health Service but the questions I would like to ask anyone who can help me are - if I buy it privately can it be taken at the same time as the chemo and how would I know what the dosage would be ?
If anyone can give me some advice or help I would be really grateful - I will do anything I can to help my Dad.
Thanks

Words can not express the way you must be feeling but my thoughts are with you - God Bless.

First dose of chemo
in NSCLC GROUP

Thanks all - Dad seems to be a little chirpier today and the first question he asked the Doc was when can I get out of here !!! Apparently his WBC is ok but he has impaired kidney function now !! Could this be caused by the chemo ? He is still on a fluid drip.
Many thanks
