  1. I'm not 100% on this so hopefully someone with more knowledge will follow me up....

My mom also has NSCLC stage IV. Initially the Dr spoke of surgery when they thought they were only dealing with her primary tumor in the upper right lung. We were told she would not be a surgical candidate when further tests showed the cancer had spead to her other lung and several lymph nodes. So I have to assume it has alot to do with where the cancer has spread to. (At least it did in the case of my mom)

    Hope this info helps.

  3. One of my faves mom used to make me as a kid...

She calls it Creamettes & Tuna

basically its cooked elbow macaroni, canned tuna fish, and mayonnaise mixed together. Served warm

You eat it with potato chips.

Probably has like a zillion calories, and I know it sounds wierd, but it is so yummy....

I want to make some right now, but i'm tryin to lose 20 lbs. Time to nuke a healthy choice dinner, i guess...

  4. Welcome Shelley,

Sorry for your need to be here. I agree with many others here about the second opinion. Do lots of research and ask lots of questions. Keep asking till you are satisfied. My mom also chooses not to hear her prognosis, as she thinks it will give her negativity. I didnt agree at first, but i'm starting to "get it". We move at her pace, and it works for us, right now. One day at a time....

I will keep your mom in my prayers.

  5. Sorry you have to be here with the rest of us, but a big warm welcome nonetheless.

My mom is currently undergoing the same chemo plan (4 treatments so far) and has done pretty well. Side effects have been minimal. Doing the reasearch is a good thing, for me it has really helped with peace of mind that were doing the right things.

I wish your mom much success with her treatment and will keep your family in my prayers.

Please PM me if i can offer any knowledge or support.

    -Danielle

  7. My brother just came from a visit with mom and she is complaining about the left side of her head feeling hot and clammy. My brother checked himself and says you can notice a slight temperature difference and definate clamminess on the left side and that is not apparent on the right side.

I'm terrified of brain mets and wonder if that is what is causing this. Does anyone have any insight or a similar experience?

Sorry if i'm being panicky...Google is not giving me any info....

    Thanks-

    Danielle

  8. Welcome Julie.

I am sorry you have a need ot be here, but have come to the right place.

I am also In Florida- Ft. Lauderdale, so if i am near to your parents and can help with any info I would be glad to- PM me anytime.

As for the nausea, my mom has had some after chemo (but only for the first few days), but the Onc has been very good about meds for this, and there are lots available. My mom uses Kytril and Ativan with much success.

It sounds like the Drs have a great plan set up and will keep your family in my prayers that all goes well.
